Isaiah Wilson Tweets Top 10: Which Schools Have Best Shot to Land 2017 5-Star?

Sanjay KirpalaniDec 15, 2015

The 2016 class is nearing its conclusion, but schools around the nation are already gearing up to find the best 2017 prospects throughout the country.

One such prospect who has the attention of several powerhouse programs is 5-star offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson out of Poly Prep High School in Brooklyn, New York.

The nation’s No. 5 offensive tackle and No. 16 prospect overall in the 2017 class—who claims to hold more than 40 offers—announced a top 10 via his Twitter account on Tuesday.

Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oregon all made the cut.

But which of these lucky schools has the best shot with the 6’7”, 322-pounder?

In late November, Wilson named Michigan his favorite.

The Wolverines have been in on Wilson for some time, with running backs coach and ace recruiter Tyrone Wheatley leading the charge for the Wolverines.

As Ryan Bartow of 247Sports noted, Wilson has struck up a strong bond with Wheatley.

“I’ve met their running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley,” Wilson told Bartow. “He stresses academic importance because football won’t be here forever. I get great vibes from him.”

It’s clear that the Wolverines have laid a solid foundation in their recruitment of Wilson to this point, as detailed by Steve Lorenz of Wolverine247.

Still, as Bartow noted, Wilson’s only trips to date were to schools who are currently not listed among his 10 favorites—which means it’s likely that there is a long way to go in his recruitment. Bartow reported that along with Michigan, Wilson listed Alabama and Ohio State as programs he’s hoping to visit next spring.

Both Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer have been among the nation’s best in landing quality offensive linemen in recent years.

Another school Wilson said he’d like to visit is Georgia. As Kipp Adams of Dawgs247 reported, the Bulldogs' offer was one that excited him.

"I did grow up watching UGA," Wilson told Adams. "I have no ties or particular connection to Georgia. My father and I used to always watch them on Saturdays."

It appears as if those four programs have established themselves in a good position with Wilson.

While the Tide, Buckeyes, Bulldogs and Wolverines are on his mind with regard to his spring visit plans, the trajectory of his recruitment could change if he makes it to the campuses of some of the other schools in his final group or even other programs outside of his list.
