Auburn's Gene Chizik is a terrible football coach and deserves to be fired before midnight Saturday night. He's that bad. What's worse about this situation is that a crushing loss in the Iron Bowl to Alabama this season shouldn't be the tipping point.

He has multiple things going against him, and it's been time to fire him since the 41-20 drubbing by Ole Miss or the 63-21 embarrassment versus Texas A&M. Even though Georgia is looking like a potential national championship team, the 38-0 loss to them was still a good time to fire Chizik as well.

Great Recruiting Classes Without Great Results

Gene Chizik's only saving grace could be his recruiting. According to Rivals.com, he has had a top-10 recruiting class over the past three years—10th in 2012, 7th in 2011 and 4th in 2010. He's also projected to have the 10th-best class in 2013.

So why are the Tigers so terrible?

It's got to come down to coaching. The talent is there when you continually collect groups of players that rank in the top 10 every season. The issue is that Chizik either doesn't know how to motivate his guys or doesn't know how to scheme for his guys.

Either way, years of 8-5, 8-5, and 3-9 with a national championship interspersed doesn't show that this team has the talent that they have brought in over the past four seasons.

Terrible Conference Record Without Cam Newton

When you coach in the SEC, the only way to keep your job is to actually win against SEC teams. While Chizik's out of conference record is a solid 14-2 over the past four years, his in-conference record is just 16-17.

With Cam Newton in 2010, the Tigers went 9-0 against the SEC. Take those nine games out and the 7-17 record that Chizik has against SEC teams over the past four years without Cam Newton is terrible.

By going 4-4 and 0-8 the past two seasons against the SEC, Chizik has proven that his time is going to be short in Auburn, Alabama. And it's time for him to be canned.

Embarrassing Losses to Georgia, LSU and Alabama Further Hurt His Case

Losing to Alabama 49-0 is not the first time that Chizik has been crushed in a rivalry game as a head coach. In fact, Chizik is just 3-9 versus the Auburn's biggest rivals, and his only wins were with Cam Newton at quarterback.

It's safe to say it's more because of Newton than Chizik that they won, based on the results over the past two years.

A larger issue is that Chizik has been getting crushed. The only one of the six rivalry losses the past two seasons that has been by less than 28 points is the 12-10 loss this year to a weak LSU team.

Losing 45-10 to LSU, 45-7 to Georgia and 42-14 to Alabama in 2011 was bad enough. But losing 38-0 to Georgia and 49-0 to Alabama this season should be the final straw. No longer has Auburn been the measuring stick. Hell, no longer has Auburn been even mediocre, and not even competing with rivals is completely unacceptable at any and all SEC school.

In the end—oh look, Alabama scored another touchdown—it's about time for Auburn fans to start asking this question:
