LSU Football: Jarrett Lee May Be Ruled out for Bowl Game, What's the BCS Outlook

While nothing has been confirmed yet, LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee could miss the bowl game over academic ineligibility.

The Tigers have easily been the most dominate team in college football this season, but what is their outlook should Lee be out?

LSU in all likelihood will have a rematch against Alabama for the national championship, and Lee was benched in the middle of that game for poor performance and hasn’t been back since.

Following his return from his arrest, Jefferson has dramatically improved on the field, and the Tigers have scored at least 41 points in every game he started. He has been incredibly efficient throwing the ball, albeit he doesn’t have to do it that many times, and is always a threat to run the ball for a big gain.

Lee is more of a one-dimensional guy, and that doesn’t work as well in LSU’s run-first offense. They rank 18th in rushing nationally, second in the SEC to Alabama, but only 100th in passing, which is ninth in conference.

Lee also failed to see a single snap in the big game last week against Arkansas. If he doesn’t see time in a 41-17 blowout, he won’t see any in a BCS Bowl.

What would be troublesome is if LSU were without the “other players” mentioned in the report. LSU did fine without Tyrann Mathieu against Auburn, but he was back for the Alabama game. He didn’t do much when looking at the stat sheet, but his presence on the field is undeniable and he could cause a fumble on any play.

Once academic reports come out, be sure to keep an eye on which LSU players are eligible, because while Lee may not factor in too much, other players might.
