BCS Standings 2011: Oklahoma State and Teams Whose Stock Went Up in Week 7

Tim DanielsOct 16, 2011

With the first set of BCS rankings to be introduced on Sunday, some undefeated teams (Michigan, Illinois) felt the pressure and suffered their first defeats while others were able to strengthen their case with big victories.

Here are three teams that improved their stock in Week 7.

No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin needed a convincing victory over Indiana with so many undefeated teams fighting to work their way to the top. The Badgers were able to accomplish that goal with a 59-7 win. Montee Ball led the way once again, finding pay dirt three times.

Since the Badgers only have two currently ranked teams left on their schedule, they will need to win over voters via margin of victory. It's a point illustrated by their blowout of Nebraska two weeks ago. They aren't taking any chances and aren't going to ease up late in games.

Projected BCS Ranking: 4

No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys

Oklahoma State picked up its second win over a ranked opponent by fighting off a feisty Texas squad, 38-26. It wasn't pretty, but Jeremy Smith had two huge runs and the defense tightened in the fourth quarter to send the Longhorns to their second straight loss.

The Cowboys are on a collision course with bitter rival Oklahoma in the season finale. Should both teams still remain unbeaten at that point, a win could send one of them to the National Championship game. However, there's still a couple hurdles left to jump before that.

Projected BCS Ranking: 5

No. 19 Virginia Tech Hokies

There were no shortage of people picking against the Hokies on Saturday, but they were able to prevail against Wake Forest. Logan Thomas and Jarrett Boykin were on target all afternoon and kept Virginia Tech's BCS hopes alive in the process.

The Hokies will need some help to make it happen, including some Clemson losses, but they live to see another week. Running the table is certainly possible for Virginia Tech with just one ranked school left on its schedule. Don't count them out yet.

Projected BCS Ranking: 15
