Nick Toon Injury: Will Foot Injury Derail Badgers' Stampede Towards Top of BCS?

Andrew KulhaOct 15, 2011

Update via Tammy Madsen CBS Sports: 5 p.m EST:

"

WR Nick Toon participated in warmups Saturday and could have played against Indiana, but since his left foot wasn’t 100%, coach Bret Bielema had the senior sit. X-rays on his left foot performed last week were negative, and Bielema said it is likely Toon will return to practice on Tuesday and be able to play Oct. 22 at Michigan State.

"

Just one injury can derail a potentially perfect college football season, and right now the Wisconsin Badgers are in jeopardy or watching theirs fall apart.

It may seem a little bit dramatic, but that is literally the importance that is placed on every game in a college football season.

As the weeks go on the games get tougher, so if your team is not at full strength their chances of winning significantly decrease.

Thankfully, for the No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers their 5-0 season won't be in much jeopardy against a 1-5 Indiana Hoosiers team, even without wide receiver Nick Toon.

Brian Bennett of ESPN reports more on Toon's injury:

"

Top Wisconsin Badgers receiver Nick Toon won't play Saturday against the Indiana Hoosiers because of a left foot injury, school officials said.

Toon, a senior, missed spring practice with a problem in the same foot. Team officials said he aggravated the injury two weeks ago during the win over Nebraska.

Toon has 25 catches for 447 yards and six touchdowns this season for the fourth-ranked Badgers.

"

To be honest, the Badgers lucked on with this injury, if that is even possible.

If this game were against a different team in any other week they would be in a ton of trouble without their star receiver.

Thankfully, the schedule seemed to smile on them this week. They won't be as lucky next week though, so the importance of Toon getting healthy cannot be understated.

If Toon can rest up this week and come back against Michigan State than the Badgers should be just fine, but he has to get healthy.

Injuries can derail a perfect season in college football.

The Badgers lucked out; theirs doesn't seem to be in trouble just yet.
