College Football Rankings 2011: Wisconsin Badgers Resembling Green Bay Packers

Jeff GrantOct 12, 2011

Wisconsin football fans may want to book round-trip tickets to New Orleans for the 2012 BCS Championship Game on Jan. 9, 2012, as the program resembles another team from The Badger State that recently raised the Lombardi Trophy.

The Green Bay Packers will enter Week 6 of the NFL regular season as one of just two teams with a perfect 5-0 record (Detroit Lions), while the Badgers are one of 13 with an unblemished record in major college football.

It's safe to say that the comparison starts at quarterback, as Aaron Rodgers and Heisman Trophy candidate Russell Wilson are enjoying tremendous starts to potential award-winning seasons.

Rodgers was named Super Bowl XLV MVP in leading the Packers to a 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers as three-point favorites, connecting on 24-of-39 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns.

The former California Golden Bears product waited patiently until the franchise parted ways with Brett Favre, which was similar to Wilson's release from the NC State football program by current head coach Tom O'Brien.

Obviously, the circumstances were different, but Wilson's decision to play baseball in the Colorado Rockies organization forced O'Brien's hand.

The senior comes into this week's game against the Indiana Hoosiers as the highest-rated passer in the country, which links him directly to Rodgers, who leads all NFL signal-callers in that particular category.

Both teams have been dominating at home, with the Badgers tied with the fifth-longest home winning streak in the country, while the Packers aim to extend their own streak to eight games at Lambeau Field against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

From a betting perspective, Wisconsin residents could benefit from a true stimulus package, as Green Bay (+350) is the favorite to win this year's Super Bowl, while Wisconsin (+600) is the fourth-choice to come away with the national title.

That's a parlay that even Washington, DC may agree upon.
