College Football Predictions Week 7: 5 Teams Worth Betting the Rest of the Year
The 2011 college football season has moved into Week 7 and some teams have slipped out of the spotlight, but that doesn't mean you can't profit from them the rest of the year.
From a betting perspective, sharp bettors are always looking for an opportunity to back teams that are undervalued in the market, as the casual fan places his money elsewhere.
Let's take a closer look at five teams that will have you cashing at the betting window until the bowl season.
Duke Blue Devils
1 of 5Around this time in Durham, NC, people are usually ready to leave the football field behind and head into Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Professional sports bettors will continue to back the Blue Devils down the stretch, especially considering that quarterback Sean Renfree is starting to play some football.
Not surprising to see Duke as a home underdog to the Florida State Seminoles this week, but early betting has moved the line nearly four points.
The most impressive win on either team's schedule is without a doubt Duke's 31-27 victory over Florida International as 3.5-point road underdogs on Oct. 1.
After failing to cover their first two games of the year, the Blue Devils have grabbed the cash three consecutive games.
Don't miss out on this under-the-radar team in the ACC.
Missouri Tigers
2 of 5The Missouri Tigers have lost all three of their road games this year, but will play four of their final seven games at home.
Professional sports bettors will point out that the Tigers have lost the total yards battle to just a single team this year, which happens to be the No. 3 team in the country.
Oklahoma managed to out-gain them by just 60 yards in a 38-28 contest in Norman.
Expect a sound performance from a Tigers squad that will be looking to return to .500.
The real value may come when getting points against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Oct. 22.
SMU Mustangs
3 of 5I was pretty upset with the SMU Mustangs after failing to cover in their 46-14 season-opening loss to the Texas A&M Aggies as 15-point road underdogs.
It's always very important to not get emotional when betting sports.
You'll often miss out on better things down the road.
SMU has bounced back from that loss, rattling off four consecutive straight-up victories, while posting a 3-1 against-the-spread record.
I'm not suggesting a play in this week's game against the Central Florida Knights, as the Mustangs will be favored after being underdogs of 7.5 or more points in the last three meetings.
Let's take a patient approach and play this squad as underdogs from here on out.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
4 of 5The Mississippi State Bulldogs evened their record to 3-3 with a 21-3 win over the UAB Blazers as 20-point road favorites last week.
Professional bettors aren't willing to forget about this team despite all three wins coming against bad competition.
Nothing like a potential bowl run, and hosting the South Carolina Gamecocks as home underdogs to get the juices flowing again.
Smart money is already a believer this week, moving the line down 1.5 points.
Don't miss out.
UCLA Bruins
5 of 5Repeat after me.
UCLA Bruins quarterback Kevin Prince must be healthy in order to back this team.
Now that we're past that, head coach Rick Neuheisel can only hope for the same thing in order to save his job in Westwood.
The Bruins will be enjoying a bye in Week 7, but will return to action on the road against Arizona, a team that has dropped all five games against lined competition this year.
There's still hope for a turnaround in the City of Angels, as the team sits at 3-3 on the season, losing three games to quality opponents.
Expect a solid performance against the number from here on out, especially if getting points at the Rose Bowl.
