Batter Gives Up Mid-AB 🤔

Nebraska Cornhuskers Stay at No. 14 in AP and Move to No. 14 in Coaches' Polls

Chad RobbOct 9, 2011

Nebraska needed to overcome a 21-point deficit to the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday night.

The game proved the Nebraska football team can overcome adversity, but does it mean Nebraska is the No. 14 team in the country? I do not think so.

Nebraska should be happy to be ranked No. 14. If Ohio State’s quarterback, Braxton Miller, had not been injured midway through the third quarter of Saturday night’s game, this ranking would likely be much different. Once again Nebraska had no answer for stopping a mobile quarterback.

Nebraska has a bye this week and may even climb higher in the polls without taking the field if teams in front of them lose next weekend.

After the bye week, Nebraska will travel to Minnesota. The Gophers have been playing horrible football so far this year. Nebraska should make easy work of Minnesota and climb higher in the polls. By the time Nebraska plays Michigan State on Oct. 9, I believe Nebraska will once again be a top-10 team. The question is: How long will that rating last?

If Nebraska is unable to figure out a way to contain mobile quarterbacks, its rise up the college football rankings will be short-lived. Nebraska will lose to Northwestern and Michigan, two teams with mobile quarterbacks.

If Nebraska uses its bye week and the game against Minnesota wisely, the Huskers will be able to overcome their inabilities on defense and continue to win games. What now seems like certain losses to Michigan State, Northwestern and Michigan could easily turn into wins.

This is a critical time for Nebraska. The Cornhuskers need to correct many mistakes. Hopefully by the end of October, Nebraska will be viewed at the No. 14 team in the country and not a team that is drastically overrated.
