Texas Football: Will the Longhorns Bounce Back Against Oklahoma State?

Josh SchochOct 8, 2011

After a devastating 55-17 loss against the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry, the Texas Longhorns are looking to bounce back against Oklahoma State next week.  The Longhorns gave up three defensive touchdowns, and scored only one offensive touchdown.

They were completely outclassed in this game, and they need to find a way to bounce back against No. 6 Oklahoma State if they want to save their season.

The Longhorns averaged 206 rushing yards per game coming into today, but they were able to manage only 36 against the Sooners.  They did not score an offensive touchdown for the first 57:29, and they only scored one because the game was in garbage time.

The Longhorns's next game against the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys isn't going to be much easier, but they will need to find a way for their defense to step up.

The Longhorns gave up three passing touchdowns in the second quarter, and the Sooners just cruised from there.  If Texas is going to bounce back, they will need to stop the Cowboys's second-ranked passing offense in the country.

OSU averages 415.5 passing yards per game, not to mention 46.8 points per game too.  They rely on their incredible, high-powered offense to win their games.

Oklahoma State's defense will give up points (opponents are averaging 27.5 points per game against them), but they also force a lot of turnovers, with Texas A&M surrendering four turnovers against them.

Texas needs to cut down on turnovers because they gave up three defensive touchdowns today (an Oklahoma school record), and then contain Oklahoma State's passing game.

This is a very tall order to say the least, and the Longhorns will not bounce back in Week 7 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.  Trying to stop receiver Justin Blackmon of OSU is like trying to stop a storm, it'll just keep coming.  The Longhorns have next to no shot in this game, and they can kiss their hopes of a BCS Bowl goodbye.
