Oklahoma Football Video: Watch Sooners Walk-on Rip Off Massive Touchdown Run

Ryan RudnanskyOct 8, 2011

Forget being a walk-on.

Oklahoma Sooners running back Dominique Whaley is impressing people. Period.

On Saturday, Whaley, who wasn't even a starter at Langston before walking on to Oklahoma 22 months ago, rushed 13 times for 83 yards, including this spectacular 64-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Coming into the Sooners' 55-17 victory over No. 11 Texas, Whaley had already racked up 379 yards and seven touchdowns on just 70 carries this season. Beyond that, he's exhibited the ability to be a good receiver out of the backfield, as well.

On Saturday, Whaley got to show off his speed and it was only fitting that his touchdown run came on a play that directed him down the sidelines.

Said center Ben Habern before the season started, via The Oklahoman:

"

“I remember the very first (spring) practice he was running down the sidelines. I said, 'Who is that?' Someone tells me, 'Dominique Whaley.' I was like, 'I don't even know who he is.' They said, 'He's a walk-on.'

“I was shocked. ‘This dude cannot be a walk-on. He had to transfer in from somewhere.'”

"

Ironically enough, the reason Whaley didn't start for Langston was because former high school teammate and current Sooners defensive back Javon Harris started in front of him.

Now he's ahead of guys such as Roy Finch and highly touted freshman Brandon Williams on the depth chart at Oklahoma and is proving that he belongs there.

With that kind of speed, it's no wonder why. Whaley has been overshadowed for so long, including in the early parts of this season. But opponents better pay close attention to him now, or he'll do what he did against Texas on Saturday.
