Florida State is gearing up for a huge game against the Oklahoma Sooners tonight, and if the Seminoles win, many people will think they will be the team to beat in the ACC.

But hold that thought for a second. Virginia Tech is the defending ACC champs, and they are having a sold start to their season.

Sure, Florida State is more talented and getting better each year, but the Hookies have been on a roll ever since joining the ACC and show no signs of slowing down.

Here's three reasons the Hokies and not the Seminoles own the ACC.

Winning Conference Championships

As mentioned earlier, Virginia Tech is the ACC Champions and they did so by beating Florida State. Ever since joining the ACC in 2004, the Hokies have won four conference titles, while the Seminoles have only won one conference title since 2005.

That could change because the Seminoles are getting better each year, but right now the Hokies are a favorite to be in the conference championship year in and year out.

Coaching

Jimbo Fisher has been a good coach for the Seminoles. He seems to have the team headed in the right direction. But Frank Beamer has been with the team for the last 25 years, and players buy into what he sells each year.

Beamer's "Beamerball" philosophy is scoring on offense, defense and special teams; and since 1987 a defensive player has scored one touchdown for the Hokies each season. Many coaches preach that, but how many teams actually do it?

Consistency

It's hard to win 10 or more games in college football. But Virginia Tech makes it looks so easy. Since 2004, the Hokies have won 10 or more games each year. So since joining the ACC, the Hokies have won 10 or more games each year.

As for Florida State, they were able to compile a 10-4 record, but it was the first 10-win season for the Seminoles since 2003.
