College Football Rankings: Power Ranking All 120 FBS Teams Heading into Week 4

With three weeks of college football behind us, some of the top teams faced major road tests this week. While some passed, like Oklahoma and Stanford, others fell short, like Ohio State and Auburn.

As the out-of-conference schedules come to a close, we will start to see conference games pick up this week and next week.

After three weeks of college football, here is how the power rankings shake out for all 120 FBS schools.

No. 120: Akron

Record: 0-3

Next Game: Virginia Military Institute

Quick Note: After games against Ohio State, Temple and Cincinnati, Akron should be able to beat VMI, right?

No. 119: New Mexico

Record: 0-3

Next Game: Sam Houston State

Quick Note: If the Lobos stand any chance of winning a game this year, they need more out of their defense on a consistent basis.

No. 118: San Jose State

Record: 0-3

Next Game: New Mexico State

Quick Note: While the Spartans have kept their last two games close against UCLA and Nevada, they still cannot find a way to win. This week against New Mexico State may be their best chance for a while.

No. 117: Troy

Record: 0-2

Next Game: Middle Tennessee

Quick Note: After losses to Clemson and Arkansas, Troy needs to find a way to take down Middle Tennessee.

No. 116: Kent State

Record: 0-3

Next Game: South Alabama

Quick Note: Nineteen points through three games does not leave many of the Golden Flash fans feeling confident, even against South Alabama.

No. 115: Miami of Ohio

Record: 0-2

Next Game: Bowling Green

Quick Note: After two straight road games to start the year, Miami of Ohio finally returns home for a game against Bowling Green.

No. 114: Middle Tennessee

Record: 0-2

Next Game: at Troy

Quick Note: Someone is getting their first win when Middle Tennessee and Troy play. The advantage that Middle Tennessee has is the two weeks to prepare.

No. 113: North Texas

Record: 0-3

Next Game: Indiana

Quick Note: To start the year the schedule has not been in the favor of North Texas. Its chances at a win take a step up this week as it takes on Indiana at home.

No. 112: UAB

Record: 0-2

Next Game: East Carolina

Quick Note: So far, UAB has scored 10 total points in its two games and thing are not going to get easier as it takes on East Carolina this week.

No. 111: Western Kentucky

Record: 0-3

Next Game: Arkansas State

Quick Note: Since keeping things close against Kentucky in the first game of the year, things have quickly gone downhill for Western Kentucky.

No. 110: UNLV

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Southern Utah

Quick Note: While most may have thought an 0-3 start was inevitable, the Rebels pulled off a big win over Hawaii and could earn another against Southern Utah.

No. 109: Oregon State

Record: 0-2

Next Game: UCLA

Quick Note: So far this year, Oregon State has lost to an FCS school and got shutout by Wisconsin. Not good.

No. 108: UL Monroe

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Iowa

Quick Note: UL Monroe hung in there with TCU this past week, which should give it some confidence heading into Iowa.

No. 107: Tulsa

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Boise State

Quick Note: Tulsa is the only team in the nation to take on three teams ranked in the top 10. It has played Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and now goes up against Boise State.

No. 106: Rice

Record: 1-1

Next Game: at Baylor

Quick Note: While the win this past week was nice, Rice has games against Baylor and Southern Miss to follow that should result with the Owls being at 1-3.

No. 105: Northern Illinois

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Cal Poly

Quick Note: After getting it handed to them at Soldier Field against Wisconsin, the Huskies will look to recover with a win against Cal Poly.

No. 104: New Mexico State

Record: 1-2

Next Game: San Jose State

Quick Note: New Mexico State has a chance this week to take advantage of a weak San Jose State team and earn its second win of the year, which would match last year's total.

No. 103: Memphis

Record: 1-2

Next Game: SMU

Quick Note: While the win against Austin Peay is good for Memphis, the good feelings will be short-lived as SMU will hand the Tigers their third loss of the season.

No. 102: Marshall

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Virginia Tech

Quick Note: After losing big to Ohio, things do not get easier for the Thundering Herd as Virginia Tech comes to town.

No. 101: Louisiana Tech

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Mississippi State

Quick Note: Lot of bad news for the Bulldogs as they drop a tough game to Houston and then go on the road to face an angry Mississippi State team looking to get back on the winning track.

No. 100: Florida Atlantic

Record: 0-2

Next Game: at Auburn

Quick Note: Florida Atlantic had to start the year with five straight road games and things are not going well. After a loss this past week, it remains on the road, this time heading to Auburn.

No. 99: Idaho

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Fresno State

Quick Note: The Vandals are off to a slow start this year and it looks like they will move to 1-3 after their game with Fresno State is all said and done.

No. 98: Boston College

Record: 0-3

Next Game: Massachusetts

Quick Note: You know you have hit rock bottom when you lose to Duke. Boston College needs to make sure that one loss doesn't account for two losses because of overlooking Massachusetts.

No. 97: Duke

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Tulane

Quick Note: This past week, Duke earned its first victory of the year against Boston College but will likely have a lot of trouble against Tulane.

No. 96: Minnesota

Record: 1-2

Next Game: North Dakota State

Quick Note: A week after its head coach had a seizure on the sidelines, Minnesota responded with its first victory of the season and should not have an issue earning a second this week.

No. 95: Arkansas State

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Central Arkansas

Quick Note: If the trend of lose-win-lose continues, the Red Wolves can look forward to a victory over Central Arkansas.

No. 94: Central Michigan

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Michigan State

Quick Note: After losing this past week to Western Michigan, things get worse for the Chips as they head on the road to take on the Spartans and likely earn their third straight loss.

No. 93: Buffalo

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Connecticut

Quick Note: Buffalo continues to struggle and things only appear to be getting worse as Connecticut comes to town.

No. 92: East Carolina

Record: 0-2

Next Game: UAB

Quick Note: East Carolina sure did not shy away from scheduling some big teams early in the year as it played both South Carolina and Virginia Tech. Downside was it led to an 0-2 start.

No. 91: UCLA

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Oregon State

Quick Note: This coming week, UCLA will meet up with a team that is doing even worse then it is. A loss to the Beavers would be devastating.

No. 90: Rutgers

Record: 1-1

Next Game: Ohio

Quick Note: After a close loss against North Carolina this past week, Ohio comes to town and the Scarlet Knights need to be ready.

No. 89: Indiana

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at North Texas

Quick Note: While things have not gone so well for the Hoosiers this year, they head on the road to play North Texas and should be able to earn their second victory of the season.

No. 88: Connecticut

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Buffalo

Quick Note: Without Randy Edsall, this program has not gotten off to the start it had hoped for, and a loss at Buffalo would make things even worse.

No. 87: Army

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Ball State

Quick Note: After losing to Northern Illinois and San Diego State, Army earned a big victory over Northwestern and looks to continue that momentum against Ball State.

No. 86: Western Michigan

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Illinois

Quick Note: After seeing their game against Michigan end in the third quarter, the Broncos have won two straight and face a big challenge when playing at Illinois.

No. 85: Air Force

Record: 1-1

Next Game: Tennessee State

Quick Note: If Air Force hopes to return to another bowl game, it must take advantage of games like this. Look for it to win big over Tennessee State.

No. 84: Colorado State

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Utah State

Quick Note: While Colorado State is off to a good start, look for Utah State to deliver it its second straight loss this season.

No. 83: UTEP

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at South Florida

Quick Note: While the 2-1 start is great, UTEP has to head on the road to South Florida and will face a team that is off to a great start.

No. 82: Eastern Michigan

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Penn State

Quick Note: After keeping things close at the half against Michigan, Eastern Michigan finally got worn down and could not compete with Michigan. Expect to see the same at Penn State.

No. 81: Utah State

Record: 1-1

Next Game: Colorado State

Quick Note: After blowing a game at Auburn, Utah State rebounded nicely and will look to earn a victory against Colorado State.

No. 80: Fresno State

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Idaho

Quick Note: One thing you cannot accuse the Bulldogs of is a weak out-of-conference schedule after putting both Cal and Nebraska on there.

No. 79: Hawaii

Record: 1-2

Next Game: UC Davis

Quick Note: After a huge letdown against UNLV, Hawaii needs to regroup and get back on the winning track against UC Davis.

No. 78: BYU

Record: 1-2

Next Game: UCF

Quick Note: Nobody on the BYU roster will be happy with the way they lost to Utah and will be looking to take it out on UCF.

No. 77: Nevada

Record: 1-1

Next Game: at Texas Tech

Quick Note: Nobody will fault the Wolf Pack for their loss against Oregon, but they will face the same kind of high-powered offense against Texas Tech.

No. 76: Colorado

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Ohio State

Quick Note: The rough start that this season has gotten off to will continue this coming week as the Buffaloes head on the road to take on an angry Ohio State team.

No. 75: Bowling Green

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Miami of Ohio

Quick Note: After matching its win total for all of last year, Bowling Green has a chance to eclipse that number in the first four weeks of the season.

No. 74: UL Lafayette

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at FIU

Quick Note: UL Lafayette has looked impressive so far this season, including putting up some points on Oklahoma State. The game with FIU should be a battle.

No. 73: Ball State

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Army

Quick Note: Despite being 2-1, Ball State will need to make sure it brings a better effort against Army than it did against Buffalo this past week.

No. 72: Arizona

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Oregon

Quick Note: This past week, the Wildcats failed to keep up with Stanford. They have a crucial game this week against Oregon. A loss would put them at 1-3 and 0-2 in the Pac-12.

No. 71: Ole Miss

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Georgia

Quick Note: After getting beaten badly by Vanderbilt, Ole Miss will go up against Georgia in which both teams will be desperate to avoid a 1-3 start to the season.

No. 70: Washington State

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Colorado

Quick Note: Washington State has surprised a lot of people by a good start despite the loss of quarterback Jeff Tuel. A win against Colorado on the road would be huge for the program.

No. 69: Toledo

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Syracuse

Quick Note: Despite putting up solid efforts against Ohio State and Boise State, Toledo is still 1-2 and has to go on the road against Syracuse.

No. 68: Kentucky

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Florida

Quick Note: So far this year, Kentucky has won the two games it was suppose to and lost a toss-up game against Louisville. This week's game will drop it down to 2-2.

No. 67: Temple

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Maryland

Quick Note: Temple almost went to 3-0 after losing a close game to Penn State. It will need to let that game go and refocus on this week's opponent, Maryland.

No. 66: Tulane

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Duke

Quick Note: The Green Wave have gotten off to a good start but need to make sure they do not look past the Duke Blue Devils toward their game at Army.

No. 65: Louisville

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Marshall

Quick Note: Louisville has done what it needed to do thus far, but an early loss to FIU was a letdown for this program. It will have two weeks to prepare for Marshall.

No. 64: SMU

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Memphis

Quick Note: SMU continues to get things turned around and could get off to a 3-1 start should it take care of business against Memphis.

No. 63: Southern Miss

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Virginia

Quick Note: The Golden Eagles offense woke up big time this past week in a victory. The Eagles hope to bring that same kind of performance with them to Virginia when they go up against the Cavaliers.

No. 62: Kansas State

Record: 2-0

Next Game: at Miami

Quick Note: So far this season, Kansas State has yet to be tested. That will all change when it goes on the road to take on Miami.

No. 61: Cincinnati

Record: 2-1

Next Game: NC State

Quick Note: This weeks Thursday night game will be in Cincinnati and it is a big one for both teams. If the Bearcats offense can keep up its current pace, it should be a big home win.

No. 60: Kansas

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Texas Tech

Quick Note: The good news for Kansas was the 2-0 start. The bad news is Georgia Tech scored a ton against it and the Red Raiders will do the same.

No. 59: UCF

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at BYU

Quick Note: Despite losing their last game against FIU, the Knight have only given up 20 points through three games and will test BYU.

No. 58: Pittsburgh

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Notre Dame

Quick Note: After squandering a road lead against Iowa, Pitt returns home to play a Notre Dame team that is in desperate need of getting back to .500.

No. 57: Wyoming

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Nebraska

Quick Note: While the 3-0 start is great for the Cowboys, this coming week's game against the Cornhuskers is not going to be fun for the program.

No. 56: Purdue

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Notre Dame

Quick Note: Purdue appears to have things figured out on offense and will get two weeks to prepare for Notre Dame to come to town.

No. 55: Virginia

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Southern Miss

Quick Note: If Virginia is looking to show signs of improvement from last year, this week's game against Southern Miss will be a way to prove that.

No. 54: Syracuse

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Toledo

Quick Note: Syracuse again is looking impressive this year, and despite its loss at USC, look for the Orangemen to bounce back at home against Toledo.

No. 53: Iowa

Record: 2-1

Next Game: UL Monroe

Quick Note: While it may not have been pretty against Pitt, the Hawkeyes did earn a victory to go to 2-1. That record will likely move to 3-1 as they face UL Monroe this coming week.

No. 52: Wake Forest

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Boston College

Quick Note: After a heartbreaking loss to Syracuse in the first week of the season, Wake Forest has rebounded with two straight wins and will have a chance to make it three in two weeks.

No. 51: Washington

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Cal

Quick Note: After a quick start, the Huskies were brought down to earth as their defense had no answers for Nebraska. The Huskies will get their conference schedule kicked off this week against Cal.

No. 50: NC State

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Cincinnati

Quick Note: Without Russell Wilson, the Wolfpack have moved on and started out the season 2-1. We will learn more about NC State when it heads to Cincinnati on Thursday night.

No. 49: Northwestern

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Illinois

Quick Note: Still without Dan Persa, the Wildcats have surprised many by starting out 2-1. With a week off, it will be interesting to see how they do on the road against Illinois.

No. 48: Ohio

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at Rutgers

Quick Note: So far so good for the Ohio Bobcats as they have come out of the gates fast. Their upcoming game against Rutgers on the road will be a good measuring stick.

No. 47: Texas Tech

Record: 2-0

Next Game: Nevada

Quick Note: Through two games the Red Raiders offense has looked good and Texas Tech should have no issues with the Nevada defense.

No. 46: Penn State

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Eastern Michigan

Quick Note: After escaping its game with Temple, Penn State needs to get things figured out on offense if it hopes to be competitive in the Big Ten.

No. 45: Notre Dame

Record: 1-2

Next Game: at Pittsburgh

Quick Note: With a win against Michigan State, Notre Dame finally got out of its own way and limited its turnovers. A win against Pitt on the road would be another building block to turning this season around.

No. 44: Tennessee

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Buffalo

Quick Note: After a tough loss against Florida, Tennessee gets a bye week to fix some of its mistakes and prepare for a game against Buffalo.

No. 43: Navy

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Air Force

Quick Note: Navy gave South Carolina all it could handle and more this past week. It will get an extra week to prepare for its game against the Air Force at the start of October.

No. 42: Cal

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at Washington

Quick Note: So far, nobody is talking about Cal out in the Pac-12, but the Golden Bears have already earned a conference win and are still undefeated. A game against at Washington will tell us more.

No. 41: FIU

Record: 3-0

Next Game: UL Lafayette

Quick Note: Florida International is having a great start to its season, going 3-0, and will quietly continue to climb the ranks, starting with a game against UL Lafayette.

No. 40: Georgia

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Ole Miss

Quick Note: After a rough start to the season, Georgia got healthy against Coastal Carolina and will need to move that momentum forward to its game against Ole Miss.

No. 39: San Diego State

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at Michigan

Quick Note: When Brady Hoke left for the head coaching job at Michigan, this game got circled on the calender. It will be interesting to see how Hoke attacks the Aztecs and the counter that San Diego State uses.

No. 38: Vanderbilt

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at South Carolina

Quick Note: Vanderbilt is doing exactly what it needed to do to become bowl eligible, earning out-of-conference victories and wins in conference against teams like Ole Miss.

No. 37: Missouri

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Oklahoma

Quick Note: Missouri has gotten off to a decent start but will have to head to Norman for a game against the Sooners, who will be ready to avenge last year's defeat.

No. 36: Mississippi State

Record: 1-2

Next Game: Louisiana Tech

Quick Note: After a tough loss to LSU at home, the Bulldogs look to get back on the winning track this week and get back to .500.

No. 35: Maryland

Record: 1-1

Next Game: Temple

Quick Note: Maryland has come out and performed well in both of its games. After a win against Miami and keeping it within a score against West Virginia, the Terps should have no issues with Temple.

No. 34: Utah

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Washington

Quick Note: The story so far about the Utes is they are 2-0 out of conference and 0-1 in the Pac-12. Utah should use the extra week to help it prepare for Washington.

No. 33: Iowa State

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Texas

Quick Note: Surprisingly, Iowa State has started off 3-0. Coming up, it has a bye week, much like Texas, and will have two weeks to prepare for the Longhorns offense.

No. 32: Miami

Record: 1-1

Next Game: Kansas State

Quick Note: As Jacory Harris goes, so go the Hurricanes. After a good game against the Buckeyes, the Hurricanes should handle the Wildcats.

No. 31: Houston

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Georgia State

Quick Note: The return of Case Keenum has been great for Houston as it has started out 3-0 and will certainly move to 4-0 this coming weekend.

No. 30: Auburn

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Florida Atlantic

Quick Note: Auburn's winning streak finally came to an end this week on the road against Clemson. The Tigers look to refocus for a home date against Florida Atlantic.

No. 29: Illinois

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Western Michigan

Quick Note: This past week, Illinois and Ron Zook earned a huge home win over Arizona State but need to make sure they don't let their guard down against Western Michigan.

No. 28: Arizona State

Next Game: USC

Quick Note: After a great start, the Sun Devils dropped a road game to Illinois and need to refocus quickly with the Trojans coming to town.

No. 27: Michigan State

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Central Michigan

Quick Note: After losing in South Bend, look for the Spartans to return home upset and looking to take it out on Central Michigan.

No. 26: Ohio State

Next Game: Colorado

Quick Note: After struggling with Toledo and losing to Miami, the Buckeyes need to get back to basics and take care of Colorado at home.

No. 25: North Carolina

Next Game: at Georgia Tech

Quick Note: In the first three weeks of the season, the Tar Heels have done enough to win every game. They will need their best performance of the year thus far to beat Georgia Tech.

No. 24: Georgia Tech

Quick Note: The Georgia Tech offense has been humming along early this season and it will be interesting to see how it does in conference play this week.

No. 23: USC

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at Arizona State

Quick Note: Quietly, USC has gone 3-0 and is entering a huge game on the road against ASU. This game could go a long way to determining the division winner.

No. 22: Michigan

Record: 3-0

Next Game: San Diego State

Quick Note: While Michigan is 3-0 and beat Notre Dame in dramatic fashion, it needs to make sure it does not look past San Diego State this coming week.

No. 21: Clemson

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Florida State

Quick Note: This past week, Clemson announced it will be a team to reckon with in the ACC. It can truly make its point this week with a win against Florida State.

No. 20: TCU

Record: 2-1

Next Game: Portland State

Quick Note: After an opening week loss to Baylor, TCU has responded with two straight victories and will make it three against Portland State.

No. 19: Texas

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Iowa State

Quick Note: Texas has a bye week this week and will use the extra time to get prepared for its game against Iowa State and then Oklahoma the following week.

No. 18: Baylor

Record: 2-0

Next Game: Rice

Quick Note: Robert Griffin III looks as good as ever, and do not expect to see the Owls slow down this high-powered offense.

No. 17: South Florida

Record: 3-0

Next Game: UTEP

Quick Note: Before jumping into conference play, South Florida will take on UTEP and will look to have all its issues ironed out and ready for the following week.

No. 16: West Virginia

Record: 3-0

Next Game: LSU

Quick Note: So far this year, West Virginia has looked really impressive on offense and will need every point possible as it goes up against LSU's defense.

No. 15: Virginia Tech

Quick Note: This past week, Virginia Tech did not look that impressive against Arkansas State. It will need a better effort at Marshall.

Quick Note: Florida appears to have turned the corner on last year's struggle and will look to continue that momentum through its game against Kentucky

No. 13: Florida State

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Clemson

Quick Note: Florida State does not have time to feel bad for itself after the loss to the Sooners. The Seminoles must get ready and focus as they head on the road to play Clemson.

No. 12: South Carolina

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Vanderbilt

Quick Note: One thing is for sure, the Gamecocks will beat Vanderbilt and are happy they don't have to see another offense like the one that Navy runs.

No. 11: Arkansas

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at Alabama

Quick Note: Arkansas will get a good view of how it will do this year without Knile Davis and new quarterback Tyler Wilson when it plays at Alabama.

No. 10: Nebraska

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at Wyoming

Quick Note: Nebraska ended up defeating Washington and taking two out of the three games those teams played over the last year. Wyoming will not provide much of a challenge.

No. 9: Oregon

Record: 2-1

Next Game: at Arizona

Quick Note: After a loss to arguably the best team in the nation, Oregon got healthy against Nevada and Missouri State. A game at Arizona will show the nation a lot about its chances to win a third straight conference title.

No. 8: Texas A&M

Record: 2-0

Next Game: Oklahoma State

Quick Note: Oklahoma State and Texas A&M are getting ready for a game that will determine a lot of things in the Big 12. This is a must-see game this week.

No. 7: Oklahoma State

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at Texas A&M

Quick Note: After breezing through their first three game, the Cowboys need to be ready because a game at Texas A&M will not be easy.

No. 6: Wisconsin

Record: 3-0

Next Game: South Dakota

Quick Note: Russell Wilson has provided the impact that most thought he would at this point. With a game against South Dakota, Wisconsin will get ready for conference play to begin.

No. 5: Stanford

Record: 3-0

Next Game: UCLA

Quick Note: After an impressive victory at Arizona, Stanford will not be challenged for the next few weeks. The Cardinal return home for a game against UCLA that should be an easy victory for them.

No. 4: Boise State

Record: 2-0

Next Game: Tulsa

Quick Note: After a convincing win on the road against Toledo, Boise State will be favored the rest of the way, and next up on its hit list is Tulsa.

No. 3: LSU

Record: 3-0

Next Game: at West Virginia

Quick Note: LSU has looked dominate so far this year and will face its second out-of-conference test when the Tigers head on the road to take on a good-looking West Virginia team.

No. 2: Alabama

Record: 3-0

Next Game: Arkansas

Quick Note: After another easy win, this time over North Texas, the Tide remain at home and will get their conference schedule started with Arkansas.

Quick Note: After a big-time road victory, the Sooners return home and will have revenge on their minds for last year's loss that Missouri handed them.
