LSU Football Uniforms: Nike's Latest Design Incredibly Underwhelming
LSU must have pissed off Phil Knight.
Their latest uniforms unveiled by Nike are not nearly as cool as the one’s Boise State, Georgia and of course Oregon have worn in the 2011 season.
After the Tigers ruined the Ducks season in Week 1, it makes sense that LSU’s jerseys wouldn’t be on the same level. Knight, the CEO of Nike, is an Oregon alum and surely wasn’t pleased with the rude way LSU treated his team in the first game of the season.

The new uniforms, which will be worn October 22 at home against the Auburn Tigers, are as plain Jane as you can get for this new “Nike Pro Combat” line that has been a big topic early in the college football season.
The duds include a white helmet with the traditional LSU logo on both sides, the usual white jersey with gold stripes on the shoulder pads and purple trim. The shoes are white and gold and players will wear "Eye of the Tiger" gloves.
It’s OK looking, but nothing special. Where is the flair? Where is the unique aspect of it? Why not make another purple or gold stripe?
It’s too vanilla for this new series and the buzz surrounding it will pail in comparison to some of the other one’s.
The whole campaign has created a ton of buzz, mostly because of the ultra sleek Oregon uni’s they sported in Week 1 against the Tigers.
Here is Nike’s official statement on the “Pro Combat” line:
"The fully integrated uniform system, which the University of Oregon debuted during the 2010 BCS National Championship Game, incorporates the latest in performance innovation and design from the world's most renowned athletic outfitter. The redesigned base layer facilitates the uniform's overall innovation, delivering the ultimate in breathable protection for maximum speed. Strategically placed seams, pads and cooling zones also help minimize distraction and optimize protection.
"
Army, Boise State, Georgia, Michigan State, Navy, Ohio State, Oregon and Stanford are the other teams involved in this campaign.
But none of the uni’s has created quite the buzz that Maryland’s Under Armor uniforms received against Miami.
With the state flag draped all over the uniform, it was one of the most unique jersey’s anybody had ever seen. Everybody had an extreme opinion on the uniform, either absolutely loving every part of it or claiming it was the most disgusting piece of clothing they’d ever laid eyes on.
LSU gets the conservative duds that will cause little debate.
Blame it on their dominance against the Ducks.
