Georgia Football: Five Players to Watch in The Coastal Carolina Game
After a tough two-week stretch, Georgia gets a break.
The Bulldogs will host Coastal Carolina on Saturday, and while there is no doubt they will win, the Bulldogs do want to accomplish some things when they face the Chanticleers.
The most important thing the Bulldogs want to do is to improve from last week. Georgia played well enough to defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks, but turnovers that the Bulldogs committed caused them to fall to the Gamecocks for the second consecutive year.
Here’s a look at five players fans should keep an eye on when the Bulldogs take the field on Saturday.
Aaron Murray
1 of 5Aaron Murray has not played bad in the first two games, but he could have played better, especially in the beginning of each game.
Murray has six touchdowns and two interceptions through the first two games and an efficiency rating of 157, which is solid. Murray just needs to play a mistake-free football game so that can carry over when the Bulldogs get into the thick of the SEC schedule.
Isaiah Crowell
2 of 5Isaiah Crowell was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance against South Carolina. And because of that, Crowell will get his first start when the Bulldogs play the Chanticleers.
Crowell showed a lot of speed and athleticism last week, and there is no reason he won’t have a better game this upcoming Saturday.
However, he does need to get better when it comes to pass protection, and this will be a good test for him to see if he has gotten better since the start of the season.
Michael Bennett
3 of 5Last week, Michael Bennett showed he can be the next big play possession receiver for the Dawgs. So far, Bennett has three receptions for 24 yards and one touchdown this season and is really pushing for more playing time.
If all goes well, Bennett should have another big game and will be in the rotation for the rest of the season.
Shawn Williams
4 of 5Because of the injuries to Alec Ogletree and Christian Robinson, Shawn Williams will see some time at linebacker on Saturday. Williams has been starting at safety the last two games and has been solid.
This should not be a hard transition for Williams because he is one of the best tacklers on the team, tallying 10 stops in two games.
Branden Smith
5 of 5There has been a lot of talk about Brandon Boykin making plays on offense, defense and special teams. But Branden Smith is just as fast and athletic as Boykin and can make plays in all three phases of the game.
The only problem is Smith wears the No. 1 jersey, and so does Crowell, so both can’t be on the field at the same time. Expect Smith to return punts and possibly play offense in special packages.
