Grant Enders Leads Towson Tigers Past Morgan State Bears in Blowout Fashion

The Towson Tigers (1-0) look to be much improved from a season ago, in which they won one game all season long, after blowing out local rival Morgan State (0-1), 42-3 Saturday night at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

The game was highlighted by a stellar defensive performance from the Tigers and an efficient night from Tigers' quarterback Grant Enders.

Enders, a junior transfer who played his high school football at Old Mill, 30 miles south of Towson in Millersville, Maryland, was surgical in his execution of the Tigers passing attack, completing 15 of his 19 attempts for 197 yards and three touchdowns; he also ran for a score.

The win was Enders first as a starting quarterback in college, but doesn't look to be his last.

Enders and Towson dominated the Bears on the ground all night long, rushing for 264 yards as a team, to Morgan State's 48.

The Tigers were also remarkable on third downs Saturday night, converting on 12 of their 16 attempts, while allowing just four third-down conversions from the Bears.

Tigers' senior fullback Tyler Wharton also turned out a notable performance in Towson's season opener, catching three passes for 42 yards and two touchdowns.

The blowout win settled a score for Towson, who lost at Morgan State back in 2009, the team's first season under three-year head coach Rob Ambrose.

Towson will look to get its first conference win next Saturday when it hosts Villanova, who hasn't lost to the Tigers since 2006.

The game will be played at Johnny Unitas Stadium on September 10, kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
