With the 2011 season getting ready to get under way there were more questions than answers as the Buckeyes scrambled to solve a couple off season bomb shells that left several holes in their football program.
Ohio State tried to do damage control by imposing team penalties but the NCAA will definitely come down with harsher penalties fairly soon.
First with Terrelle Pryor and several OSU players that were all receiving improper benefits which will surely cost the Buckeyes big time once the NCAA sanctions are put in place.
Second Jim Tressel tried to cover up the scandal by lying to his superiors and the NCAA by omitting the problem and tried to cover up the scandal, which back fired and he had to step down.
With interim coach Luke Fickell stepping in the Buckeyes will be getting a quality young football coach to help lead the program back to dominance in the Big Ten once again.
Since coming to Ohio State in 2002 Fickell has won Assistant Coach of the Year Award from the American Football Coaches Association.
This achievement alone has has already placed himself in esteemed Buckeye company. With the likes of Woody Hayes, Earle Bruce, Jim Tressel and Carroll Widdoes.
The new football coach then decided to add former teammate and roommate and Mike Vrabel to his coaching staff Fickell has helped his team in recruiting and coaching.
How many games do you think OSU will win next season?
In Vrabel gets a proven winner that has 3 Superbowl on his resume as well as one of the best Buckeyes to play the game. Superbowl experience surely helps in the recruiting battle and will do a little damage control.
Stepping into the job Fickell will have an already talented Buckeyes team led by Dan Herron, Dexter Larimore, Devier Posey, Dionte Allen and Mike Adams this team is stout on both sides of the ball.
Fickell is familiar with the personnel and will be running a similar system so the learning curve will be small for the players and coaches.
ESPN U has Ohio State's 2011 recruiting class as the number 7 overall class, with 7 top 150 recruits. The Buckeyes will have a bunch of young talent lining up for them for years to come.
Fickell has all the tools and the powerhouse program to really thrive as a head football coach. His strong work ethic and high football I.Q. will help lead the Buckeyes to multiple National Championships during his tenure.
