College Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Teams Wishing Their 2012 Class Was Here Now

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

For different reasons, the following teams on this list are the type that kind of would like to have their current 2012 recruiting class on the roster now. Either because their current team needs depth, needs a boost of talent or they have a couple star recruits who are just too good not be on the team now.

Whatever the reason, these five teams have recruiting classes that, if I were them, I'd be looking for ways to get them on the team for camp this 2011 season.

Here are the five teams and the reasons why.

5. Ohio State

The Buckeyes already lost Kyle Kalis to rival Michigan and Brionte Dunn may leave soon too. If you're Luke Fickell, don't you want the recruits you have committed now on your team right now just so they won't be able to de-commit?

Before you lose any more players, you're kind of thinking, "It would be nice to have these guys now."

In that, you get Josh Perry and Brionte Dunn on the team for sure.

At the least, if you're Fickell, you're wishing for an early signing period.

4. California

Cal has a small recruiting class at the moment, but the Bears do boast solid quality. They have several commits from the likes of QB Zach Kline, WR Bryce Treggs and OLB Michael Barton.

Cal is not really expected to do much in the Pac-12 this season, so having three talented players like the aforementioned trio would be great.

In fact, I think Kline could start for the Bears right now if he were given ample time to learn Jeff Tedford's offense. Treggs could be the next DeSean Jackson in Berkley and Barton could run and hit people on special teams.

3. Michigan

3 of 5

Michigan needs help on defense based on their performance the past few years. As it appears right now, the Wolverines have the top incoming LB class in the country.

Joe Bolden, James Ross, Royce Jenkins-Stone and Kaleb Ringer are all very good prospects at LB. Jerrod Wilson and Terry Richardson are solid defensive backs and Tom Strobel and Mario Ojemudia are solid DEs.

Looks like Big Blue's defense is getting a talent boost. Only thing is Brady Hoke would be better served if they were in Ann Arbor this year instead of 2012.

2. USC

USC's roster is very, very talented. We all know that. The only thing is, USC has been hit hard with scholarship restrictions so their roster numbers are down and will be for awhile.

So just on the fact alone that their incoming recruiting class would equal more bodies, I would put the Trojans on this list.

Toss in the fact that they have elite talents like Arik Armstead, Jabari Ruffin, Max Tuerk, Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick and Scott Starr coming in, and one would imagine they would love to have their class at Heritage Hall now.

1. Indiana

5 of 5

Two words as to why the Hoosiers make this list and make it this high: Gunner Kiel.

Kevin Wilson has to be downright giddy as to what he just did: he just beat out juggernaut powers like Alabama, Oklahoma and Michigan for the top QB prospect in the country.

Certainly Wilson is not only going to build his offense around Kiel but pretty much his overall program. Kiel is a landmark player for the Hoosiers, and Wilson must be anxious to get Kiel to Bloomington and start developing him.

He's probably wishing he could start that now.
