College Football Recruiting 2012: The Latest on Every 5-Star Recruit

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

For this read, I really am primed to focus on the uncommitted five-star recruits, as many of the committed five-star players are locked in to their pledges. Whether it be some new developments, a prediction or a simple update, I'm going to take a couple five-star recruits and give you the 411 on them.

Depending on what other publication you subscribe to, there is a difference of opinion on many recruits and if they are five-star prospects. So with that said, I also want to caution you that the players on this list are players I think truly are five-star-caliber talents.

Here we go.

20. Jordan Jenkins, DE

1 of 20

Jenkins seems to have a prime six of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn and Georgia Tech.

Out of that six, it looks like Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Auburn are the main contenders. He will be looking to cut down the list again and make a decision in the coming months or weeks.

Georgia is doing everything they can to keep the Peach State native home, but it's anyone's guess.

19. Josh Garnett, OL

2 of 20

Garnett has become a hot commodity for nearly every school in the country. Scout.com lists him as their top OG prospect, but Garnet could very well play OT as a collegian.

It seems like right now Garnett has a top 11 of—in any order—Auburn, Stanford, Washington, Michigan, USC, Cal, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Oregon and UCLA.

18. Landon Collins, DS/OLB

3 of 20

I honestly think it's between Alabama and LSU for Collins right now. He has a couple other schools he will look at, but he's even said he's already made his decision.

I don't want to try to predict anything, because he had a great time at the Alabama camp, but he is a Bayou State native.

Collins won't announce until after the season.

17. Darius Hamilton, DE

4 of 20

Hamilton is down to a final six; Rutgers seems to lead over other schools like Alabama, Florida, Cal, Oregon and Tennessee.

I think Rutgers will win out, but don't count out any of the other schools as one "wow" trip could sway the big DE. A decision could come either before the season starts or not until after the season, as Hamilton will focus on Bosco football in-season.

16. Kyle Murphy, OT

5 of 20

Murphy once seemed down to USC, Stanford, Cal and Oregon, but has opened himself up a bit more. He seems to be seriously considering Notre Dame for a visit, and other schools are trying to get into the mix.

Murphy may be still a ways from a decision, as he is still evaluating several schools to take visits to.

15. Gunner Kiel, QB

6 of 20

Kiel seems to be keen on Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan and a dark-horse Indiana team. He's viewed as the top QB in the country by most and could be a franchise-type of player for a program.

He was thought to be deciding on June 12, but it's July 18, and we still don't know where he's going. I think it comes down to Oklahoma and Alabama.

14. Jarron Jones, DT

7 of 20

Jones has de-committed from Penn State, and for awhile I thought he was destined for Syracuse. But it seems now the Orange are out, and he is still considering the Nittany Lions.

Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and North Carolina are also in the race.

I think there's actually a good chance Jones sticks it out with PSU.

13. Avery Young, OT

8 of 20

Young is a five-star OT who has interest in Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Alabama. Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and Miami are also other schools in contention.

Young has admired Oklahoma from afar, but he is also from Georgia and has a ton of family there. Thomas Davis is his cousin, and one has to believe the NFL LB is certainly in Young's ear about Athens.

12. Shaquille Thompson, DS

9 of 20

Thompson once committed to Cal, but he opened himself up again shortly after. I still think he winds up at Cal. There are just too many factors that point to him going there.

His brother went and played there, it's close to home, he goes to a pipeline school and Thompson has admitted he does get homesick.

Other schools like Washington, Notre Dame and UCLA are under consideration.

11. Rushel Shell, RB

10 of 20

Shell is anyone's guess. I haven't seen too many interviews from him, but after some snooping around and according to ESPN, he's considering Auburn, Penn State, Pitt, Ohio State and Tennessee.

A decision could come today, it could come on NSD or any time in between.

10. Jameis Winston, QB

11 of 20

Winston seems down to Alabama, Florida State and LSU. I was once confident for the Tide, but FSU and LSU are on him very hard.

But I think in the end it could indeed be Alabama. He has a close relationship with many of the coaches and has been to campus many times.

It also doesn't hurt that he's a lifelong 'Bama fan and is from the state.

9. Kwon Alexander, OLB

12 of 20

Alexander has offers from just about everyone and rightfully so. He's the best OLB in the country and one of the top defensive recruits on the board.

I think a key tip is to watch out for schools like Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, LSU and Florida, among a couple others.

Speculation is wild on Alexander, and I want to see where he decides to take his five official visits.

8. D.J. Humphries, OT

13 of 20

Humphries, in my opinion, can talk all he wants about other schools like South Carolina, Auburn, Clemson and Tennessee, among others, but I'm confident in my prediction on him.

I think Humphries will be a Florida Gator.

He has called the feeling around Gainesville "home," loves the program and has said several times they pretty much are his leader. He will take some visits, but don't expect much of a delay in his decision going forward.

7. Stefon Diggs, WR/DB

14 of 20

The latest on Diggs seems to be his stating that Miami, Florida, Auburn, South Carolina and Virginia Tech are "showing him the most love," according to Scout.com.

Diggs is the most versatile offensive weapon in the country and is a dynamic player. He recently had a great trip to Auburn a few weeks ago.

6. Quay Evans, DT

15 of 20

Evans is a 6'2", 320-pound DT who seems to be focused on schools like Mississippi State, Alabama, LSU, USC, Oregon and Ole Miss, among others.

Evans said MSU was his leader, but that was in the spring. Florida State could also be in the picture too.

My prediction is MSU wins out over Alabama.

5. Noah Spence, DE

16 of 20

Spence recently took visits to North Carolina and N.C. State, and enjoyed both trips. He is from North Carolina ,and his family has a lot of Wolfpack ties, including his father playing for the squad.

Spence also has offers from Notre Dame, Penn State and Pitt, among others. I think there is a good chance he ends up at N.C. State.

4. Eddie Goldman, DT

17 of 20

Goldman has a top 15 of Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Virginia.

He has recently visited Cal and South Carolina, and is about trip to Auburn, Alabama, Florida State and Georgia.

He says he is still very open within his top 15.

3. Keith Marshall, RB

18 of 20

Marshall still has a long list of schools, really about 14, but does plan to visit ND among others in the fall. Miami and Oregon are the newest additions to make the list a full 14.

Alabama, North Carolina, Clemson and Auburn are other schools that are on his trail. Marshall seems wide open, and Georgia is also in the mix.

2. Andrus Peat, OT

19 of 20

I think three schools in the thick of the hunt for Peat's services are Notre Dame, Michigan and Nebraska. His brother is on the Cornhuskers' roster, so Big Red will be a major player.

He has also spoken nicely about his affection for the Wolverines and Irish, but Peat is still pretty open. He's taken trips to USC and Florida State, and does want to see Texas, along with a few other schools in the South.

This is far from over.

1. Dorial Green-Beckham, WR

20 of 20

Beckham is the marquee get on the recruiting trail this year. He's a 6'6", 220-pound WR with 4.3 speed. He has offers from all over the country and really doesn't seem interested in telling too much about his recruitment.

Yet it seems the main schools could indeed be Oklahoma, Missouri, Alabama and Arkansas, among a few others.

This is shaping up to be a long process for the No. 1 recruit.
