College Football 2011: Top 5 Must-See SEC Matchups of the Season

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

The best conference in all of college football will once again be spectacular to watch. The SEC has won the last five BCS National Championships, and there is a great chance they will make it six in a row.

Alabama and LSU are the favorites this year in the SEC West, and their terrorizing defenses will take them very far.

South Carolina should repeat in the SEC East, but they have a history of choking. The Gamecocks have the talent, but will they produce at a high level?

The SEC will beat each other up like always, but it makes them stronger by season's end.

Here are the top five must-see games in the SEC for the 2011 college football season.

5. Alabama at Auburn (Nov. 26)

1 of 5

Arguably the best game in the SEC in 2010, the Iron Bowl is always exciting. Auburn won't be as good this year, but Gene Chizik has loads of talent on his roster, and the Tigers never give up against the Crimson Tide.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide could very well be undefeated going into this game. Trent Richardson is the go-to guy for the Tide, and he should have no problem running all over the Tigers.

By this time, the Tigers will have figured out who their quarterback is. Will it be Barret Trotter or the incoming freshmen sensation Kiehl Frazier?

Whoever it is will have a very difficult time against the Crimson Tide defense.

4. Arkansas at Alabama (Sept. 24)

2 of 5

This could be the coming-out party for Tyler Wilson. The Arkansas Razorbacks will heavily rely on his somewhat experienced arm, as well as the legs of Knile Davis.

However, the Crimson Tide will look to put Wilson in his place by laying the hammer. Alabama's defense is going to be tough to move the ball on this year, and Wilson's arm will put them to the test in the early going.

Nick Saban versus Bobby Petrino will be a matchup fans will love to see for many years to come.

3. South Carolina at Georgia (Sept. 10)

3 of 5

The Georgia Bulldogs will either be feeling fantastic or depleted when they battle the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 2.

Georgia faces Boise State prior to their first SEC game, and if they lose to the Broncos, they'll struggle against the Gamecocks, because their confidence will be destroyed.

This game doesn't get much love in the conference, but it will ultimately decide who wins the SEC East. Will Marcus Lattimore run all over the Bulldogs again, or will Aaron Murray get revenge on the Gamecocks?

Always a hard-fought game, the Bulldogs and Gamecocks will look to start their season off right by beating their division rival.

2. Arkansas at LSU (Nov. 25)

4 of 5

Jordan Jefferson may not be the starter by this game if he doesn't play well in the early portion of the season. He's worked extremely hard in the offseason to be a better quarterback, and because of his experience, I believe he'll hold the position for the season.

This game could very well decide who wins the SEC West. Arkansas is a bit underrated in the West because of powerhouses like LSU and Alabama. However, with a victory over either of these teams, their season will be viewed as a huge success.

LSU should be in prime position to make their case as national title contenders this late in the season. Will the Razorbacks ruin all their hopes and dreams?

1. LSU at Alabama (Nov. 5)

5 of 5

This is easily the most anticipated game of the SEC.

Both teams are being picked to win the SEC West and represent the SEC in the BCS National Championship game.

It is believed that the winner of this game will go on to win the SEC. Trent Richardson will look to make his case as a Heisman Trophy candidate, but Les Miles and company plan on shutting him down.

This game will come down to whether or not Richardson has success and whether or not Jordan Jefferson screws up.
