Florida State Football Recruiting: Will Winning Determine the 2012 Class?

Daniel BrommerJul 12, 2011

All of the hype, the countless hours in the gym and film room and on the practice field will all come to an end during the first week in September, when the Florida State football team begins their journey towards a BCS bowl game and an ACC championship.

For months, football experts have been analyzing the progression of this team. It began the day after their bowl win over South Carolina, all the way through their process of obtaining the top recruiting class in the country. But now the pressure is mounting even more.

Now is the time when Florida State needs to prove they aren't just a school known for recruiting and not producing on the field.

How will the 2011 season pan out? The hype has already given Florida State verbal commitments from the top player in the country, Mario Edwards, and other top-notch talent. But now they are almost in that stalling stance in which some recruits are waiting to see what they do on the field this year before pulling the trigger.

Most of the recruiting battles are taking place in the state of Florida, but there are other big-time recruits that the 'Noles want to sign.

D.J. Humphries is the nation's top offensive lineman out of North Carolina. And Eddie Goldman is the nation's top interior defensive linemen from Washington, D.C. Also on their radar are Stefon Diggs, wide receiver out of Maryland and Andrus Peat, another top offensive lineman out of Arizona. These some of the other states that Florida State is recruiting from, and these are the players that are must-get recruits for the 'Noles.

Are these the players waiting to see how the season prevails before they commit? If so, then Florida State will have to prove themselves on the field. The Seminoles have lofty expectations for themselves this year, expectations that include winning against Oklahoma and winning the ACC.

If all the pieces fall into place, the recruits will come pouring in and will want to join the success and storyline of Florida State, finally announcing their new arrival.
