Will the Oregon Investigation by the NCAA Bring Misery to LSU as Well?
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Willie Lyles, is a self promoting entrepreneur who is alleged to be everything from a football trainer, street agent to a recruiting pimp. Recently, he has began spilling his guts to anyone with a microphone or a press credential and the stories he's telling may leave a big wake behind them.
Lyles came to national prominence in the Oregon investigation and clearly his association with Oregon will lead to problems with the NCAA for the Ducks. They were essentially caught paying him at least $25,000 for allegedly steering recruits to Oregon—not for his so called recruiting reports which ended up being an absolute joke and not worth the money they paid for them.

But in telling his side of the story to the press, he's also let loose stories that may bring the NCAA to LSU—who is already under investigation in other matters—to dig into Lyle's relationship with that school as well.
LSU has only confirmed at this point that they did pay Lyles $6,000 for through his Complete Scouting Services business this past December. They are said to have paid Lyles an additional $26,000 for his services from 2008 to this past December, according the the Shreeveport Times.
Others are coming forward as well with stories that make LSU cringe.
In a May story on ESPN, Van Malone, a former coach at Texas A&M, said that after prized recruit Patrick Peterson visited A&M, Lyles told him on the phone in 2007: "If you want this kid, there are other schools that want this kid as well. They're willing to pay a certain amount of money, around the $80,000 mark."
Peterson ended up at LSU. To everyone this sounds a lot like the Cam Newton story and casts a long shadow on what LSU may have done to land Peterson.
But the most damning words are from Lyles himself, who on a radio show Tuesday with Oregonian columnist John Canzano first denied having escorted recruits to LSU and then retracted it by saying, “I have. Well, yeah. Yes, I have. I actually went with Lache (Seastrunk). It was me, Lache and his mother (Evelyn) on that visit to a camp at LSU on campus.”
Seastrunk was a top tailback recruit in 2010, but ended up signing with Oregon, who was also paying Lyles. If Lyles did in fact escort a recruit to the campus it could land a school in hot water, especially if he paid for the trip.
Clearly, every school that did business with Lyles is going to come under scrutiny.
Now out of the recruiting business, Lyles has no reason not to cooperate with the NCAA and he certainly has a lot to say.
