College Football Predictions: Winners of the 2012 BCS Bowls

There's nothing like predicting the final results of the college football season before the college school year even begins, specifically the results of the BCS Bowl Games.

Whether your TV gives out for the next eight months, you pull a Rip Van Winkle and hibernate until February, or you're just a football junkie trying to bridge the gap until the season starts, I have the final results for you here in July.

Will the SEC crown a sixth straight champion? Can the Oregon Ducks make another run? Is this the year a team from a non-automatic qualifying conference makes it to the BCS National Championship?

Orange Bowl: Florida State vs. West Virginia

The Virginia Tech Hokies have won three of the last four ACC Championship games, and have therefore represented the conference in the Orange Bowl frequently. 

That run comes to an end when the Florida State Seminoles take their final step back to national relevance by winning the ACC and earning a trip to the Orange Bowl. 

E.J. Manuel will be spectacular as the starting quarterback now that Christian Ponder has moved on to the NFL. Manuel already has big game experience, leading the 'Noles to a Chic-fil-A Bowl win after Ponder was injured early. 

The West Virginia Mountaineers will be the token Big East champion. They allowed the fewest points in the conference last year, and that will be the rule once again in 2011. 

It's time for TCU to join the conference and provide some much legitimacy to the basketball conference. 

Florida State beats West Virginia 31-14

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Boise State

In a rematch of the iconic 2007 Fiesta Bowl, the Oklahoma Sooners will once again meet the Boise State Broncos. 

The only difference is that the Broncos are no longer Cinderellas. Their exciting victory over Oklahoma four years ago served as the catalyst to national respect due to their success. 

This game is going to be full of talent, perhaps featuring two one-loss teams. 

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore is returning along with top running back Doug Martin. Oklahoma returns their star quarterback Landry Jones and most other offensive weapons minus running back DeMarco Murray. 

Expect a high scoring barn-burner. 

Boise State beats Oklahoma 41-38

Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Wisconsin

You're probably asking yourself, "If Alabama is in the Sugar Bowl, who the heck is in the National Championship?" 

That's a surprise ending. 

The Crimson Tide lost a lot of talent from last year's squad including quarterback Greg McElroy, running back Mark Ingram, wide receiver Julio Jones and defensive tackle Marcell Dareus. But they still have a ton of talent there and have brought more in. 

Nick Saban will field another national contender. 

The Wisconsin Badgers are going to represent the Leaders Division in the new Big Ten conference in the inaugural conference championship game. Of course, if they're in the Sugar Bowl, that means they lost. 

You'll see the winner of that game in just a moment. 

With the addition of former NC State quarterback Russell Wilson, jerk head coach Bret Bielema is going to be able to give his annoying band a lot of chances to dance around the field after the game. But not in the game. 

Alabama beats Wisconsin 27-20

Rose Bowl: Nebraska vs. Stanford

The champions of the Big Ten will be the newcomers, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Like Florida State, they've finally arrived back on the national stage, and it's good to see them, I must say. 

Quarterback Taylor Martinez shined during his freshman year in 2010, and I only expect him to improve in his second year in Lincoln. Head coach Bo Pelini's defense was very good and, like Martinez, will only get better. 

Stanford erupted on scene with All-American quarterback Andrew Luck last season. Even with the loss of head coach Jim Harbaugh to the San Francisco 49ers, the Cardinal lost little else on the offensive side of the football. 

I was blown away by their speed and intensity against Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl last year. Luck will do more of the same in 2011, leading up to being drafted No. 1 overall in next April's NFL draft. 

Stanford beats Nebraska 30-24

National Championship: South Carolina vs. Oregon

The champions of the SEC and the Pac-12 will be on showcase in the 2012 BCS National Championship. For the Oregon Ducks, it will be their second consecutive appearance in the game. For the South Carolina Gamecocks, it will their first ever appearance. 

Oregon's fast-paced offense is no secret anymore. That doesn't make it any less effective, though, and the return of quarterback Darron Thomas and running back LaMichael James bodes well for its continued success. 

James is my pick for the Heisman Trophy as well, which tells you how good he'll be for the Ducks. 

South Carolina is a bit of a surprise pick here. They have never won an SEC title, but will take down Alabama in the Gamecocks' second consecutive appearance in the conference championship. 

The Gamecocks return all of the talent at the key positions. Quarterback Stephen Garcia, running back Marcus Lattimore and wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey all are back. The latter two will be playing a lot on Sunday soon. 

Defensive linemen Melvin Ingram and Devin Taylor were sack machines and led South Carolina to racking up the most sacks in the SEC. 

Once again, the introduction of a quality defense will stymie the Oregon offensive assault and leave the Ducks just inches shy of quacking again.
