College Football Recruiting 2012: Predicting the Biggest Commitments in July

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

With June gone and July here, among many other things that means we're a month closer to National Signing Day, closer to the fall official visit period and surely to see some more commitments being made.

Granted it seems that many top talents are waiting until post-season all-star games, I still believe July will bring us several big dominoes to fall in college football recruiting. This could be a crucial month for your favorite school's recruiting class.

Let's try to predict some big names who may make their commitment this month.

Chris Black, WR

1 of 5

Black is one of the top receivers in the country. He stands 6'0", 175 pounds, and is a prime deep threat down after down due to solid release quickness, burst and deep speed.

He's being recruited by just about everyone you can name, but the prime three are Florida State, Alabama and Florida. Black grew up a Gator fan and loves the new staff, but FSU has been on him hard and has indicated a chance for an early impact.

Black's family took an unofficial visit to Alabama months ago not knowing much about the Crimson Tide, but came back in love with 'Bama and have been ever since. A decision is coming soon.

Jordan Jenkins, DE

2 of 5

One of the most heavily recruited players in the South and one of the naturally athletically blessed players in the country, Jordan Jenkins is a player who may be making his pledge this month.

6'3", 250 pounds, the explosive DE prospect is keen on six schools in no specific order: Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia Tech.

Some say Florida and Tennessee are the favorites, while others claim Georgia or any of the others could snatch him Jenkins. His family has been thorough in the process, and word has it his decision is coming pretty soon.

Eugene Lewis, WR

3 of 5

Lewis is a 6''2", 180 pound WR prospect that plays faster than his timed speed. I'll bet money he's a high 4.5 player, but he plays faster than that between the lines. He's just an instinctive play maker all around the field.

He's also a Pennsylvania kid that grew up watching Penn State, and the Nittany Lions have offered. Their efforts seem to rev up by the week and Lewis even talked to Joe Paterno via skype.

I think this could be the month Lewis' love for PSU and their increased effort to land him wins him over.

Jameis Winston, QB

4 of 5

Winston has said he will make his decision soon and is 90% sure he knows where he is going already. Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Stanford and UCLA are the finalists.

He may be the best QB from this class in four years from now, as the 6'4", 200 pounder has a rifle for a right arm along with the instincts, smarts, work ethic, athleticism and play speed to do what he wants on the field.

Alabama may be the favorite, but it's a tough call.

Gunner Kiel, QB

5 of 5

Kiel was thought to be primed to make a decision in June, but here we are after Independence Day and the 6'4", 200-pounder is still on the market.

It seems as if the top schools in contention are Oklahoma, Michigan and Alabama, with Indiana also being thick in the race. Kiel has a solid all-around skill set and could be an early impact QB, which is a rare feat.

Also, it seems Maty Mauk may be waiting for Kiel to make up his mind before Mauk decides on a school.
