College Football: Predicting the Next 10 BCS National Champions
Who will win the BCS championship in 2012?
That's what all the months of speculation and preparation boil down to: one team's quest to win the ultimate prize.
This list predicts the next 10 winners of the championship.
Call it crazy, but predicting who will win 10 years from now is not that much different from predicting the winner in January of 2012.
It's just pure guesswork...
2012: Oklahoma Sooners
1 of 10Even with an early season tangle in Tallahassee and tough conference competition, the Sooners will emerge as the next BCS champ, breaking the SEC's stranglehold on the title.
Bob Stoops has plenty of pieces in place to put together a great run, and Landry Jones will be a Heisman finalist.
Of course, should they lose to Texas, all bets are off, but that's not likely...
2013: Notre Dame Fighting Irish
2 of 10The Irish are right there.
The defense is going to be incredible next season after a great recruiting class, and Cierre Wood could be a top five running back next season.
Besides, the Irish have to live up to the hype at some point—it's worse than "The Boy Who Cried Wolf."
2014: LSU Tigers
3 of 10If Les Miles hasn't eaten the entire field of grass by then, the Tigers will be ready to assert SEC dominance once again.
Defensively, the Tigers are pretty consistent and seem to have no trouble recruiting.
The difference maker in their run to the title will be quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
Sure, the SEC will still be extremely good, but in the years that the Tigers find consistent quarterback play, they are good enough to win the conference.
2015: TCU Horned Frogs
4 of 10In a horrible geographic mix-up, Gary Patterson and the Frogs are moving to a new conference.
It probably won't take this long for TCU to take over the awful Big East.
The Horned Frogs seem to always have a solid defense, something which teams from the conference never see.
Even so, it's likely it will lose a game or two every season for a few years, but eventually TCU will get the Big East to the BCS championship game.
2016: Florida State Seminoles
5 of 10Jimbo Fisher has the Seminoles heading the right direction.
It's also only a matter of time before the ACC becomes relevant in the race to the BCS championship once again.
After all, these things are cyclical.
2017: USC Trojans
6 of 10After all the NCAA sanctions, the Trojans will be down but not out.
Lane Kiffin may be a scumbag, but he can recruit, and it won't be long before the Trojans are back atop the Pac-12 and the rest of the football world.
USC consistently pulls in the top talent in the Pac-12, and while Oregon and Stanford are enjoying their 15 minutes of fame, it's almost over...
2018: Arkansas Razorbacks
7 of 10You may not like Bobby Petrino, but you have to like what he is doing at Arkansas.
The Razorbacks are poised to challenge Alabama and LSU should they slip up in 2011, and it's only a matter of time before Petrino's great recruiting really starts to pay huge dividends.
If the Hogs didn't have to travel to both Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa this season, they might be the favorite, but their fans will settle for a title in a few years...
2019: Nebraska Cornhuskers
8 of 10OK, so we have no clue if the Pelinis will both still be at Nebraska in 2019, but that face is priceless.
Anyway, after years of subservience to the upper echelon of the Big 12, the Huskers have now moved to the Big Ten.
With the fall of Ohio State, Joe Paterno in his waning years and Michigan playing like Iowa State, the conference is going to be wide open for a few years.
Who better to step in and take control than Big Red, even if it is down the road a few seasons?
2020: Miami Hurricanes
9 of 10If Al Golden can keep enough guys out of jail to put a team on the field this season, he will be doing great.
Seriously, he is a great coach, and with the talent pool he has to pull from at Miami, he should be able to come up with some great teams during his tenure.
A BCS bid sometime in the next three years is a very realistic expectation, and a few at-large bids will finally give way to a shot at the championship in 2020.
2021: Boise State Broncos
10 of 10Yeah, they will finally get one.
After all these years of fighting for a shot at the championship, the Broncos will get to play for a title.
Unfortunately, the next 10 years will be filled with lawsuits, complaints and whining, but it will all be worth it when they finally take home that trophy...
