Georgia Football 2011: 7 Best Offensive Players
As much as the Georgia Bulldogs struggled last year, they were pretty solid on offense. Last season, the Bulldogs averaged 32 points per game which put them in the top 30 in the country, and under the leadership of quarterback Aaron Murray, they scored over 30 points in seven of their last eight games.
This year is different because the Bulldogs will be without receiver A.J. Green who was the most dangerous offensive weapon for the Bulldogs the last three years. However, they still have talent on the offensive side of the ball, and if they are able to play to their potential, Georgia could have a dream season.
Here's a look at the seven best offensive players for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Blair Walsh
1 of 7Georgia punter Drew Butler is considered by many as the best punter in the country. But, kicker Blair Walsh is not bad either and has become an extremely consistent kicker for the Bulldogs.
Walsh hit 20-of-23 field goals as well as 46-of-47 PATs last season. Walsh has been a two-time Lou Garza Award finalist, and if he has a season similar to last, he should win the prestigious award.
Cordy Glenn
2 of 7The offensive line had had its share of problems when it comes to staying healthy or playing consistent football. But Cordy Glenn has not been a problem for the O-line, as he is considered one of the best offensive linemen in the conference.
This season, he will move from left guard to left tackle to protect Aaron Murray's blind side. So hopefully, Glenn can stay healthy because he is arguably the team's best pass blocker.
Ben Jones
3 of 7As good as Cordy Glenn is, the offensive line will go as far as Ben Jones will take them.
Jones is the leader of the O-line and has been one of the most consistent centers in the SEC. According to college football guru Phil Steele, Jones is the seventh-best center in the country and was named Steele's second team preseason All-SEC team for this year.
Caleb King
4 of 7Caleb King knows that this is a make-or-break year for him.
He has not played consistent football in his entire career at UGA, but when he is on, he is hard to stop. He only made five starts last year and rushed for 430 yards and two touchdowns. But he had a great spring and will look to do some damage in his final year as a Bulldog.
Tavarres King
5 of 7With no A.J. Green, Tavarres King will slide into the No. 1 receiver position. He had a solid 2010 campaign, catching 27 passes for 504 yards and three touchdowns. But, he is confident he will put up better numbers in 2011.
King is a big-time talent, and he will try to prove it to the Bulldog nation starting Sept. 3.
Orson Charles
6 of 7Georgia has been known for its great tight end play over the years, and it doesn't stop with Orson Charles. Last season, Charles caught 26 passes for 422 yards with two touchdowns. That was good enough to put him on the All-SEC second team which was voted on by the SEC coaches.
This year, many experts have considered the junior tight end as one of the best at his position and is expected to have a career year in 2011.
Aaron Murray
7 of 7If Georgia has any chance of winning the SEC, Aaron Murray will have to play like he did last year. Murray threw for 3,049 yards and scored 28 total touchdowns. He was named to the Freshman All-American team by Phil Steele and Sporting News and was also named as the team MVP and Newcomer of the Year.
Murray made such an impression last year, there are talks that he could be a dark horse for the Heisman Trophy this season. It's obvious he is the guy that makes the offense go in Athens.
