College Football: 7 Teams That Don't Belong in Their Conferences
Some things just don't belong together: fish and pizza, water and electricity, Nebraska and the Big XII.
It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. There are numerous analogies that could sum up something that doesn't belong with another thing, but I'll just save the time.
The following is a list of teams that just don't belong in their conferences for one reason or another.
Vanderbilt
1 of 7Team Record: 558-567-50
For years, Vanderbilt has been at the bottom of the SEC. They have been terrible at best. If a team underachieves in a conference known as the best in college football, they do not deserve to be in it.
Vanderbilt should be in either the Big East or C-USA.
Wake Forest
2 of 7Team Record: 412-602-33
Like Vanderbilt, Wake Forest is at the bottom of the ACC. That's saying something because except for Miami, Florida State and Virginia Tech, the ACC is a fairly weak conference.
Unlike the Commodores, however, the Demon Deacons have had some good years but have been largely inconsistent.
They belong in a conference such as the C-USA or MAC.
Baylor
3 of 7Team Record: 531-532-43
Baylor has had some decent teams but has fallen on hard times as of late. Robert Griffin got them to a bowl game but one bowl does not make a great team.
Baylor was in the cellar for almost the entire history of the old Big XII. They deserve to be in the WAC or Mountain West.
Iowa State
4 of 7Team Record: 494-587-45
Staying in the Big XII, we focus on the Baylor of the North.
The Cyclones have been a doormat and easy victory for teams going back to the days of the Big 8. Iowa State is heading in the right direction with Paul Rhoads but without the divisions, the Cyclones will struggle.
Iowa State would be better suited in the WAC, especially with the departure of Boise State.
Indiana
5 of 7Team Record: 449-617-44
The Hoosiers are usually battling Purdue and Minnesota for the spot in the cellar of the Big Ten. Indiana is a basketball school and it shows.
Attendance to games is terrible as is the team. Kevin Wilson looks to change that but he might have better luck if the Hoosiers were in the MAC.
Big East in the BCS
6 of 7The whole Big East has been nothing since the mass exodus of Virginia Tech, Boston College and Miami in 2004.
Last year's Big East Champion left little to be desired in the bowl game. UConn went 8-4 and made it to a BCS bowl.
It's like rewarding Big East teams for underachieving. Although, this might change with the addition of TCU in 2012.
Boise State
7 of 7Team Record: 231-69-2
Boise State belongs in a different conference, not because of losing but because of they're winning ways.
The Broncos have made football relevant in Idaho. Boise State is known for many things from their blue turf to the upset of Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl.
Boise State doesn't belong in the Mountain West, but instead in the Big XII or the Pac-12.
