Terrelle Pryor: CFL Team Places Pryor on Negotiating List

When Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor said he would not be returning for his senior season there were immediately a number of scenarios ahead for him as a football player. One idea that was tossed around by fans and the media was for Pryor to head north of the border and find a playing gig in the Canadian Football League.

On Wednesday it was reported that the Saskatchewan Roughriders have placed Pryor on their negotiation list, giving the Roughriders the exclusive negotiating rights to the star player should he decide to pursue playing time in the CFL. Pryor's options are still open as far as playing in the United States goes, though. He can still transfer to another program or explore the possibility of joining the UFL or the NFL supplementary draft.

"I've recommended he start looking very soon at who is going to be the person or agent that he's going to utilize to vet all these options and do this for a living," said Larry James, Pryor's attorney in a report by The Canadian Press, Canada's version of the Associated Press. James said that the CFL may be a good fit, but the quarterback is still evaluating his options. Of course, his lawyer made what may be construed as an ill-advised comment saying, “My house is not for sale, but at the right price, it’s on the market.”

“With the [bigger] field up here in Canada, with the athlete that he is, he would be an interesting component to come up here and run around and do some things as a quarterback,” Roughriders general manager Brendan Taman told The Associated Press on Wednesday. “It is a pass-oriented league, so that’s one thing he’d have to master,” he said. “But as a runner he would flourish up here, I know.”

The character issue which has been raised by recent events is not being overlooked by the Roughriders.

“Any time we sign a player we check into their character and whatnot,” Taman said. “If we get these talks advanced, we’d obviously have a thorough discussion with him and get input back on exactly what went down. What little I know about him, I don’t think there’s anything that’s a major red flag.”
