Alabama Football Recruiting: 'Bama the Leader for Nation's No. 1 Recruit?
The Alabama Crimson Tide football recruiting machine may be working its way toward a commitment from the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2012.
Rodney Orr, the resident recruiting expert for TiderInsider.com as well as Tider Insider TV of WUOA in Tuscaloosa, recently stated that he thought the Crimson Tide held an edge for Dorial Green-Beckham, the nation’s top prospect (http://wvuatv.com/content/tider-insider).
Green-Beckham, a 6'6", 220-pound wide receiver in Missouri, is not only the country’s premier pass-catcher, but the No. 1 player overall according to Rivals.com, one of the most-reputable sources on the recruiting landscape.
Since head coach Nick Saban took the reins in 2007, Alabama has been no stranger to top-ranked recruiting classes, and that bevy of talent has already translated into one national title. Now the Crimson Tide enter 2011 as the preseason No. 2 team in the land, with expectations for another BCS title-game berth in the air.
Both thanks in large part to the sterling ability of Saban and his crew to reel in prime schoolboys not just from the Southeast, but from places such as Arizona and California. At the Capstone, recruiting isn’t just about your own neck of the woods. It’s also about a little cross-country wooing.
Then you have Green-Beckham, an overgrown wide receiver with the speed and elusiveness of a much smaller target who has seemingly all you could want in a game-changing guy on the perimeter.
Every team is after him. Only one can ultimately claim possession.
In the meantime, there's reason to say the Alabama Crimson Tide are sitting pretty for the signature of a pretty darn good prospect.
