Jadeveon Clowney Announement: Why Clowney Should Choose LSU
There is no doubt that Jadeveon Clowney, the nation’s top defensive end and by most accounts, the nation’s top player, will make an impact and be a standout player at whatever school he chooses.
Clowney is an absolute beast on the field, with raw athletic ability, power, quickness and football intelligence.
He has the opportunity to choose from an elite group of universities to find the best situation for himself and the best place to display his talents for NFL scouts.
He is likely to choose an SEC school, with Alabama, LSU and South Carolina on his short-list, but is also considering Florida State and Clemson.
If Clowney chooses to go to Florida State or Clemson, he will steal the show as he will face weaker competition in conference play.
However, if he chooses an SEC school, he will be showcasing his talent against the best of the best on a weekly basis and will have a higher likelihood of playing in one or more BCS national title games.
He can go to Alabama or South Carolina and be great, playing on good defenses on which he will be the superstar. Or he can go to LSU and play on what will more than likely be the best defense in the nation with him on the roster.
The Tigers are returning the bulk of their dominant 2010 defense, with a phenomenal secondary, above average linebacker corps and with Clowney and incoming freshman Anthony Johnson, one of the nation’s best defensive lines.
At LSU Clowney would be one of many stars and would, at times, have to share the spotlight. However, having Johnson, the nation’s top incoming defensive tackle playing next to him for his entire career would open up many opportunities for Clowney to dominate tackles that would be forced to block him one-on-one.
LSU has consistently dominated the defensive line of scrimmage for the past decade and has a history of producing NFL caliber defensive linemen drafted in the first round.
Clowney would have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Marcus Spears (Cowboys), Glenn Dorsey (Chiefs) and Tyson Jackson (Chiefs)—LSU defensive linemen who won a national championship and went on to be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft.
Clowney has many options available to him on national signing day and realistically, many of them would be good choices for him.
But if he wants to compete for national championships and be part of an elite caliber defense, the choice is clear.
Baton Rouge is calling you, Jadeveon. Answer the call and be a part of the national championship hunt in 2011 and beyond.
