Savon Huggins: Notre Dame, Rutgers and North Carolina All Vying for 5-Star RB
Savon Huggins, a 5-star running back, is deciding between Notre Dame, Rutgers and North Carolina as National Signing Day approaches.
With less than three weeks before the New Jersey native is likely to make his decision, we have to wonder where he'll end up.
Huggins has taken his official visits to Notre Dame, North Carolina and Auburn, and his father calls those his finalists, according to a Scout.com report.
As he hails from the Garden State, Rutgers is hopeful to land Huggins, who has excelled at St. Peter's Prep right under the Scarlet Knights' collective nose.
Despite recruiting in the Northeast, Rutgers does have a decent class. With 4-star recruits Al Page and Miles Shuler, the Scarlet Knights could see a major improvement if they do gain the commitment of Huggins.
However, going up against perennial powers Notre Dame and North Carolina, which have both put together impressive recruiting classes, is not the best bet for a Big East school that went 4-8 last year.
Notre Dame has a host of 4-star recruits and an extremely talented class, but it lacks a running back of Huggins' stature. With tight end Ben Koyack and wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, both 4-star recruits, the Irish provide Huggins with extremely talented support from him to grow as a runner over the next few years.
North Carolina, meanwhile, has an excellent class already and has gained the commitment from 4-star running back Travis Riley. The Tar Heels' offensive additions are as impressive as those at Notre Dame, but Riley would likely compete with Huggins for carries, dropping the values of both prospects.
In the end, expect Huggins to commit to Notre Dame. Combined with this year's improvements and another solid recruiting class, the tradition the Irish carry will be too much for Huggins to turn down.
