USC Football Recruiting: 5-Star DE Greg Townsend Jr. Commits to Trojans
Among the very nice surprises at today's Under Armour All-America prep football game was the inspired play of USC commit, quarterback Max Wittek.
Also of note was the very fine special teams play of kicker Adam Heidari and long snapper Peter McBride.
Even defensive tackle, Antwaun Woods made his presence felt in a big way.
But nothing was bigger than the verbal commitment of Beverly Hills, Ca. defensive end, Greg Townsend Jr.
Townsend, rated a 5-star prospect by Scout.com, announced his decision at halftime of the game with the Red team leading the White team 7-3.
Saying that he couldn't pass up a chance to play for defensive line coach, Ed Orgeron and coordinator, Monte Kiffin, Townsend chose the Trojans over TCU where his father, former NFL player, Greg Townsend Sr., played his college ball.
In Townsend, the Trojans get a big (260 lbs.) and quick end whose athleticism results in a lot of time spent in the opponents' backfield.
Now the Trojans will focus on defensive interior line help at the tackle position to go along with the aforementioned Woods and linebacker help to go along with such recruits as Tre Madden and Kent Turene.
With Townsend's verbal, the Trojans now have four 5-star recruits in the fold and a very real possibility that more are on the way.
All in all, a very nice recruiting class is shaping up at USC for 2011.
And they may not be done yet.
