2011 Under Armour All-American Game: Top Matchups, Stars and Positional Battles

Edwin WeathersbyJun 2, 2018

The Under Armour All-American Game is another elite high school all-star game for the top prep stars in the country.

In the recruiting world, fans hear and read about players and make their assessments based on stars and word of mouth.

Well, in this game, fans can see the top players up close. Not in shirts and short, but up close in full pads, playing football. Let's check some key matchups and anticipated positional battles!

Jeff Driskel Vs. Braxton Miller

1 of 11

In a battle of elite quaterback prospects, both player's styles and ways of playing couldn't differ any greater.

Miller, an Ohio State commit, is a dual threat QB who can beat you with either his arm or legs and make plays throwing in the run and outside the pocket.

Driskell is headed to Florida and is the prototypical pocket passer. Great mechanics, arm strength, delivery and solid accuracy.

Savon Huggins Vs. Travon Hughes

2 of 11

Huggins is a sizzling running back with solid size, better quickness and good speed.

Hughes is a linebacker with two tough jobs: On the field he must make sure Huggins doesn't have a big game. Off the field, he must make sure Huggins joins him at Chapel Hill, as Butch Davis has enlisted him to help lure Huggins to UNC.

Max Wittek

3 of 11

Wittek, a quarterback from Mater Dei High School (California) is one of two quarterback commitments USC has gotten this season.

He's 6' 3'', 200 pounds and has played against top notch competition throughout his high school career.

Wittek has been a bit overshadowed, hype-wise, in this game due to Miller and Driskel's presence, but he looks to be poised to enhance his status with a big game.

Doran Grant Vs. Marvin Shinn

4 of 11

Grant is a 5' 10'' cornerback with athleticism and leaping ability to hold up vs. big receivers.

Shinn, a 6' 3'' wide out headed to Alabama, figures to try to use his size and speed to make Grant prove it on the field.

Isaiah Crowell Vs. Stephone Anthony & Karlos Williams

5 of 11

Crowell is a sensational back who can run downhill and get to the edge.

Anthony will present a challenge to Crowell in tracking him vs. the run, while Williams is a big safety who figures to be in the box on run downs with his eyes locked on Crowell, as well.

Marqise Lee & Hasean Clinton-Dix

6 of 11

Seeing both of these marquee safety prospects roam the back end should be plenty fun to see.

Lee is an athletic player who still is a bit green to football, but has shown he's a quick study and eager to learn.

Clinton-Dix has great size and range and figures to be problem to White team quarterbacks Miller, Wittek and Kendall Thompson.

Brandon Williams Vs. Travis Hughes

7 of 11

Hughes is in line to see time at the Mike and inside linebacker positions in the game.

Williams has great speed as a home run threat, but also runs tough inside, where he and Hughes should have some great meetings.

Anthony Johnson Vs. The Red Team's Interior Offensive Line

8 of 11

I'm about certain that since the offensive linemen of the Red squad arrived, they've had an array of discussions on how they figure to block Johnson.

Johnson is the epitome of a problem on the field: big, massive, strong and quick.

The Red team's linemen will have their hands full with him.

Mike Bellamy Vs. Ryan Shazier

9 of 11

Bellamy is headed to Clemson and has CJ Spiller do-it-all tools. He's a threat as a runner and out of the backfield as a playmaking receiver.

Shazier, a future Buckeye, is an athletic outside linebacker who looks to have the skill set to match up and track Bellamy out of the backfield in underneath coverages.

Christian Westerman & Cyrus Kouandjio

10 of 11

Westerman and Kouandjio are perhaps the two most elite offensive tackle prospects in this year's class.

White team defensive tackle Anthony Johnson may not match up against the pair, as he's more of an interior player, but a chance to see Kounandjio's size and athleticism, and Westerman's dominant run blocking ability up close will still be key to see.

La'El Collins Vs Jadeveon Clowney

11 of 11

In any match up we see in sports, we want to see the best vs. the best. We have a chance to see just that in this potential matchup.

Collins is likely the top left tackle prospect in the nation, combining foot quickness and athleticism on a 6' 5'' frame, heading to LSU.

Clowney is the national top recruit, and a 6' 6'', 240 pound defensive end who combines an explosive burst in his first step with excellent athletic ability and strength.

There's been some rumblings Collins suffered a minor injury, but we hope he's in the lineup, as this matchup is must see TV.
