Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix and Dee Hart To Visit Florida: '85% Chance We Play Together'
Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, a 5-star safety, and 4-star running back Dee Hart are two of the highest-rated prospects from the 2011 recruiting class, as well as teammates at Dr. Phillips high school in Orlando, Florida.
Clinton-Dix, the top-rated safety in the nation, committed to Alabama in April. Hart, a top 15 running back, committed to Michigan in October.
While neither have directly balked at their commitments, in recent interviews with Fox Sports, the duo dropped a couple bombshells that should have Crimson Tide and Wolverines fans nervous.
First, it was Clinton-Dix revealing that Florida was still recruiting him heavily and that he'd recently been visited by new Gators coach Will Muschamp.
"[Muschamp] has a great personality. I mean, like I said, laid-back, relaxed, calm. He came at me like a normal person. I felt comfortable around him," Clinton-Dix said to reporters.
Things got really interesting when Clinton-Dix went on to say that he and Hart would make a visit to Florida together, though a date hadn't been set yet.
"85 percent," Clinton-Dix added when asked what the percentage was that he and Hart would play together on the next level.
Hart was even more optimistic about the pair's chances to play together in college.
"We're still hearing a lot from Florida, Florida State. Yeah, it's still an 85 percent [chance], probably 90 [percent]," Hart said.
Where exactly the two of them are planning on playing together remains to be seen.
When pressed about their current commitments, the pair were largely noncommittal, though they would not outright say that they were wavering on their respective commitments.
"I'm just feeling relaxed right now getting ready for the all-star game, and then we'll talk more on [Alabama] as soon as the all-star game is over," Clinton-Dix said.
If indeed Florida were to have first shot at stealing them away from Alabama and Michigan, it would be a huge haul for the Gators.
Clinton-Dix is an elite prospect who really has an ideal skill set for a safety. There's almost nothing about his game not to like, except for some minor footwork issues.
He is the type of player that craves contact, and he could really succeed as either a strong safety or free safety. Based on his size, 6'2" and 190 lbs, if he can define his man-to-man coverage skills a bit, he could develop into a once-in-a-lifetime type of cover corner.
Hart is an electric playmaker who's faster on the field than his 4.5-second 40-time would suggest.
He has great balance, vision, change-of-direction ability and at 5'9" and 190 lbs, a surprising ability to break tackles. He may be undersized, but he's a compact and strong rusher who can really dish out punishment.
"It would feel great [to play in college with Hart]. We've got a great bond. I mean, sometimes we fight every now and then, but that comes between friendship, so I'd like it a lot," Clinton-Dix said.
For now, it appears the Gators will do everything they can to convince the high school teammates that they belong at Florida together, but it still remains to be seen where Florida State falls in the mix.
Rumors began circulating earlier this month that Alabama was pursing Hart and had seriously entered the mix, but with Hart and Clinton-Dix planning a trip to Gainesville, the focus has shifted to the Gators.
