College Football Rankings: Who Got Screwed in the Week 15 Coaches' and AP Polls?
College football rankings came out today for the final time, and it's time to check out which teams were screwed in this week's polls.
With some teams playing this week and some staying idle, it's clear that there's the opportunity for some questionable rankings. I'm here to give you 10 of them. Any thoughts or comments? Leave them below.
No. 10: Stanford
1 of 10
This is just a minor gripe, but I think Stanford should be over Wisconsin.
The Cardinal's only loss was to Oregon, who will be in the National Championship Game. The Badgers lost to Michigan State, who will be outside of the BCS looking in. I just think that Stanford deserves that spot over Wisconsin, and sadly we won't see the two in the Rose Bowl against each other to figure it out.
That would have been one heck of a game.
No. 9: Hawaii
2 of 10
It's not often that you can see Hawaii on this list, but here they are.
The Warriors' losses are as follows: USC, Colorado and Boise State. The Warriors beat Nevada this year and were the only team to do so. That's not bad if you ask me. If the AP can put the Wolfpack as high as they did, there needs to be some love for Hawaii.
I have bigger complaints than this, but it's a tiny bit puzzling.
No. 8: Missouri
3 of 10
So Missouri beats Oklahoma earlier in the year, finishes with the same record as Oklahoma State, who lost to the Sooners, and somehow the Tigers are behind the Cowboys in the AP poll.
I know that Missouri and Oklahoma State didn't play each other and that makes things hard, but the Cowboys weren't ahead of Missouri last week in the coaches' poll and now all of a sudden Oklahoma State makes the leap.
It just looks and sounds stupid.
No. 7: Texas A&M
4 of 10
The Texas A&M Aggies were on fire down the stretch and won the last six games of the season but ended up missing the Big 12 Championship.
One of those wins was a 9-6 battle against Nebraska, and yet the pollsters decided to drop the Cornhuskers (something I'll touch on later) down the polls, but not below a team that beat them, the Aggies.
If you're going to drop them, you have to put them below a team that beat them, and neither poll did that.
No. 6: Connecticut
5 of 10
Connecticut is the Big East champion and will be heading to a BCS bowl this January.
However, in both polls, the Huskies are ranked behind West Virginia—a team that will not be heading to a BCS bowl, who lost to Connecticut and didn't win the conference yet is ranked ahead of the Huskies in both of the polls.
You can say what you want about the resumes of both, but no conference champion should be ranked behind a team in their conference.
No. 5: Florida State
6 of 10
The one thing I hate is penalizing a team for playing in a conference championship game.
Florida State lost to Virginia Tech last night and got to wake up to a drop in the rankings in both polls. Just because the Seminoles played an extra game and happened to lose just seems wrong to me.
Why should a team that wasn't good enough to play in its conference championship game benefit from not playing?
No. 4: Oklahoma State
7 of 10
So Oklahoma State and Alabama both were idle this week as the conference championships took place.
Yet somehow, the Crimson Tide managed to hop the Cowboys in the AP poll for doing absolutely nothing. That sounds fair. Was it because of the Auburn win? What could possibly inspire this from the voters? I wish I knew.
Sometimes the voters just puzzle me.
No. 3: LSU
8 of 10
Look, I know Virginia Tech went unbeaten in conference play, but are the Hokies really better than LSU?
Virginia Tech lost to Boise State and James Madison and while that was at the beginning of the season, there's something to be said for that. LSU had a great season but just lost a couple of tough games. I'm not sure that's enough to warrant Virginia Tech over the Tigers.
Not that it changes much in the grand scheme of things, but it still doesn't seem right.
No. 2: Nebraska
9 of 10
Again, another case of a team being penalized for playing in an extra game.
Nebraska lost a total war with Oklahoma last night in the Big 12 Championship, and as a reward, the Cornhuskers went down in both polls. Nebraska, who went to the conference title game, is below Oklahoma State in both polls, a team that didn't play on Saturday.
None of it seems fair to me.
No. 1: South Carolina
10 of 10
Our final case of a team being penalized for playing with something on the line yesterday.
Sure, South Carolina got destroyed yesterday. Yeah, it was embarrassing, but how many teams has Cam Newton done that to? The Gamecocks beat Alabama yet find themselves behind the Crimson Tide in the polls.
I just don't know how a coach or a voter can do that to a team.
