Bulldogs want to make their case with strong start

Not since Herschel Walker's last game in a Georgia uniform - more than a quarter century ago - have the Bulldogs taken the field as the No. 1 team in the nation.

They've kicked off a season as the top-ranked team the same number of times in their history as Uga VII has prowled Sanford Stadium for a game.

Which is zero.

That is until Saturday when Georgia plays visiting Georgia Southern at 12:30 p.m.

"It's funny because we've never been No. 1," senior receiver Mohamed Massaquoi said. "We don't know what it feels to be No. 1. We don't know what it takes to be No. 1, so what we're going to do is go out there and work as hard as we can and play the best that we can."
