Next to Opening Day of the MLB Season, College Football Kick-Off is my favorite sports day of the year.

Washington over 21 Oregon
         Ty's boys come out in week one and help save their coach's job. This is not the Oregon team of Dennis Dixon and Jonathan Stewart. This Oregon team's ranking is a a gift for the fact that the guys who wore these uniforms last year were one knee injury away from a Heisman winner and a National Title shot. Washington QB Jake Locker is a bonafide stud that has a year of starting under his belt and will not be intimidated by the extremely hostile environment at Autzen Stadium on Saturday.

Fresno State over Rutgers
A Match-up of two of College Football’s recent Cinderella stories. Pat Hill’s Bulldogs have been the class of the WAC during his tenure and Greg Schiano has turned Rutgers from a Big East Punchline to a contender in a surprisingly strong conference. Both of these coaches push their teams to play hard throughout the entire game. This one should go down to the wire, but look for Fresno State to start their BCS bid right away.

24 Alabama over 9 Clemson
this is my 2nd biggest upset of the week. Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide are out to prove that they are back in the SEC and Tommy Bowden may be on his last legs after 10 years and no ACC title. Unfortunately for Tommy Alabama is gonna come hard and fast and Clemson will not be able to match-up and a top 10 team will go down on day one.

20 Illinois over 6 Missouri
Maybe it seems like i’m a little upset happy but hey, I call it like I see it. I was at the Rose Bowl last year when the Illini got shellacked by USC, and while by all accounts that game was an embarrassment for Ron Zook, there were still flashes of a great team. Missouri established itself as a Big-12 power last season and the Big-12 is pretty equal to the Big-10. This will be a great game, but in the battle of the spread offenses Juice Williams will be a much better leader than Chase Daniel and the Illini will prevail

UCLA over 18 Tennessee
There may be no “smoggy smoke on Rocky Top” but there will be a coach on quite the hot seat as Rick Neuheisel comes out strong in his UCLA debut. UCLA has a top flight defense that will be severely underestimated by the Volunteers and Norm Chow knows a thing or two about taking a Pac-10 school into an SEC powerhouse and shocking the world (USC/Auburn 2003). This is the late game on Monday and is a MUST-SEE.
