Meet the Unknown Quarterbacks of the LSU Tigers

Marshall CourtneyAug 17, 2008

Well... the college football season is just around the corner and that means LSU football.

The Fighting Tigers are not just a sports team in Louisiana, for many it is a way of life. Every year is a contending year for the Bengals of Baton Rouge, and that includes this year.

That's right, this year could very well be another year of the Tiger. You may or may not have noticed, but how has LSU won their last two National Titles?

With a back-up, nobody quarterback. The Unknowns...

In 2003 it was Matt Mauck, the back-up to Rohan Davey, an LSU great and a personal favorite. In 2007 we won the big game with Matt Flynn, who played behind JaMarcus Russell, who was the overall first-round pick by the Oakland Raiders.

This year, we have Jarrett Lee, who would have been the back-up for Ryan Perrilloux, a five-star recruit out of Louisiana. Sadly, Perrilloux was indefinitely suspended from the team after many mistakes and unfollowed rules.

So, if the trend keeps up, the Tigers will have a nice chance at making it to the dance once again. Who against?

Well, I think Oklahoma has a good shot, but I personally don't see Ohio making it back for a third straight year. They honestly shouldn't have been there last year, but the Tigers also made it in by the skin of their teeth, so I can't protest that point.

This year LSU has quite a difficult schedule, including going into Florida's backyard and having Georgia back on the schedule will be interesting.

Luckily for LSU, it is a home game against the Bulldogs and it is difficult to come in here and win, especially at night.

We also have true rival Ole Miss, Saban's Crimson Tide, the Razorbacks, and Auburn. It's the usual SEC schedule for LSU, which means no easy road to the SEC Championship or BCS Title game.

As the air in Baton Rouge thickens with the humidity of the season, so does the tension awaiting the start of the 2008 college football season. I await Aug. 30 along with hundreds of thousands of Tiger fans.

I wish all teams a good season, but don't be disappointed if you happen to have LSU on your schedule, just know that you and your team was part of something special, the chance to play in Death Valley or at least against THE Fighting Tigers of LSU.
