After the first game of the 2010 season, we expected the Gators' Football team to come out this past Saturday charged and ready to show they had....For one half (offense) and one drive(defense), it didn't look good. Here the tale of 2 halves (at least for the offense)....
The First Half: (half empty)
On Offense: Gator's first drive looked just like the last game. The snap wasn't handle correctly by Brantley and was over in 3 snaps. The offense finally scored a point late in the first half, after a defensive pick, but didn't do much else. Sturgis looks like his back isn't good...Missed a FG from 39 yards out.
On Defense: The defense seemed to get gashed every which way by B.J. Daniels in the first drive, leading to a TD. The drive took over 10 minutes of the first quarter and I was worried the D would be tired for the rest of the game. Then they gave up no more points until late in the 3rd quarter. Jelani Jenkins showed us the speed Meyer liked running down Daniels from the back side...boy he looked good.
The 2nd Half:(half full)
On Offense: The first drive didn't produce points. But I did notice we were successful on the ground...not so much in air (Brantly's sack ended drive). Then the light bulb went ON...when the fourth quarter started, the Gators had scored 24 points. Not sure of the stats, the Gators ran up and down the field in the 3rd quarter. Demps showed why he's the offensive star on the Team( with a long TD run and long kickoff return). Everyone looked gassed on the field, but they weren't coming out. Pouncey sure wasn't going to the bench(plus I don't think he wants to drop in the draft to the Steelers)..
On Defense: The defense had to show it's depth again...losing another player. The freshmen got alot of playing time which should be good as we start the SEC schedule. Another pick-6 was good, this time by Trauttou. Black and Janoris Jenkins continued their splendid play.
It looks like the Florida coaches may have given up trying to be play in the Tebow-like offense of the past 3 years and play with the best players using plays that showcase their skills. We actually ran between the tackles to score a TD using a RB. Demps and Gillislee look like the 1-2 punch the coaches thought they had in the back field. Deonte is now 0 and 2 for TD passes, but recovered and caught everything his way. Carl Moore showed us why he was so highly coveted. And if Rainey recovers from his concussion in time for Vols team, we should have our stars in place. Debose hopefully gets more work in the offense as the season progresses. I do like the speed we have, so even as young as we are, we can recover, if we make a mistake.
I'm looking forward to Vols game......
