Nike Unveils 2010 Pro Combat Uniforms for 10 College Football Teams

Ten schools will wear this year's edition of the Nike Pro Combat uniforms at least once this 2010 season.
The Nike uniforms, which are "engineered to provide superior protection and durability, while utilizing advanced fabrics and tooling to reduce weight," were unveiled in New York City early Wednesday morning.
Let's take a look at a preview of each of the chosen 10 schools' uniforms.
Virginia Tech
Unveiling: September 6 vs. Boise State
The Hokies will sport their all-black version of the Nike Pro Combat uniforms in their highly anticipated Monday night opener against Boise State at FedEx Field.
Theme: "Ut Prosim"
Meaning: All-black uniform references the cadet gray-and-black regalia worn by Virginia Tech's original football team and honors the school's current Corps of Cadets.
Boise State
Unveiling: September 6 vs. Virginia Tech
Theme: "Bring the Hammer"
Meaning: Reflective, Game Royal Bronco head on the uniform and pants echoes the famed blue turf of Bronco Stadium.
Alabama
Unveiling: November 13
Theme: "Roll Tide"
Meaning: Houndstooth check pattern incorporated into the uniform in a tribute to legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
Ohio State
Unveiling: November 27
Theme: "1942"
Meaning: Stylized script numbers, a replica U.S. flag on the jersey sleeve, and the camouflage print base layer honor the WWII-bound Buckeyes and their first national championship in 1942.
Oregon State
Unveiling: December 4
Theme: "Giant Killers"
Meaning: Retro design revives a look worn by the victorious 1967 "Giant Killers," a team known to take down giants on the field.
Miami (FL)
Unveiling: November 20
Theme: "The U"
Meaning: Tonal Fir palm frond print emblematic of South Florida incorporated into the jersey numbers, pants, and footwear.
TCU
Unveiling: September 4
Theme: "Till Hell Freezes Over"
Meaning: Icy lizard skin pattern used throughout the uniform inspired by the scaly body armor of TCU's horned frog mascot and the memorable quote "Fight 'em till hell freezes over, then fight 'em on the ice" from celebrated coach Leo "Dutch" Meyer.
Pittsburgh
Unveiling: November 26
Theme: "Let's Brawl"
Meaning: Notched team gold jersey numbers and stencil stripe on the helmet evoke steel I-beams in reference to Pittsburgh's steel industry and the toughness of the city.
Florida
Unveiling: October 30 vs. Georgia at the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party
Theme: “Threatened By No One” with “Pride”
Meaning: Alligator-skin motif used in the jersey numbers, pants, gloves, and footwear inspired by the menacing Gator mascot.
West Virginia
Unveiling: November 26
Theme: "Leave No Doubt"
Meaning: A headlamp-like line running front-to-back on the helmet and smudged black pattern on the uniform pay respect to the region's coal mining industry.
