College Football Week 1: Erin Andrews, Tebowless Gators and Fearless Picks
Pull out your BlackBerry and iPhones sports fans because College Football is back.
We have some Week 1 action that we are gonna take a look at shortly, but if you're married like me, you have to make sure that you have your excuses for why you won't be attending the weddings, bar mitzvah's, baby showers (you better not), and random trips to IKEA.
So, what will you be enjoying as far as the college pigskin this week?
Well, lots of blowouts as you will seem but there are a couple of good games you may want to keep your eyes on. Without further adieu let's get the predictions out since Thursday kicks of the season.
Marshall at (2) Ohio State
Don't get caught peaking Ohio State. I know this game looks easy, but you may be focused on the U's visit to the Horseshoe next week. Marshall can be a sneaky game. Well, they were when Randy Moss was there. Too many off field incidents this year for Marshall and this game won't be close. Ohio State 28 Marshall 9
Florida A&M at (13) Miami
Hmm. It's a Thursday night. I suggest Real Housewives of DC. Miami 49 Florida A&M 3
(15) Pittsburgh at Utah
Pitt running back Dion Lewis ran for 1,799 yards last year. That's gotta make Panthers fans happy. Utah likes slaying dragons. That's gotta make Utes fans happy. I personally like dragons. Upset alert: Utah 19 Pittsburgh 17
(14) USC at Hawaii
Too much talent on the Trojan side of the ball. That's not good news for Hawaii but even in victory, something will be missing for USC Trojan nation. It's like you have a full year of preseason football for USC. But I'm curious to see Lane Kiffin's debut as USC coach. USC 42 Hawaii 21
Miami (OH) at (4) Florida.
Thank God Tim Tebow is gone. I wasn't sure if he was ever going to graduate. Urban Meyer will show us that he can coach without Super Boy. Personally, I think John Brantley may be a purer (dare I say better) quarterback than his former.
Gosh.
Those words almost sound spiritual (and soon to be prophetic). The Gators will roll here but tune in to say that you have watched a Gator game without Tebow worship. Florida 56 Miami 12
South Carolina State at (16) Georgia Tech
Yeah, I will be at brunch. Georgia Tech 59 SC State 0
(5) Texas at Rice
No Colt. No Problem. Texas will have steamed Rice. Texas 35 Rice 10
Coastal Carolina at (25) West Virginia![]()
Speaking of Rice. Here's a late lunch. WVU 45 Coastal Carolina 17
San Jose State at (1) Alabama
I hear Inception is really good. Alabama 42 SJS 3
(20) UNC at (19) LSU
Any great chef knows you can't mix certain ingredients. In college football lingo, that's agents and academic problems. UNC decided to do just that and are paying the price. The backup defense for UNC should be thrilled though for two reasons:
1) They get to play.
2) It's Erin Andrews' first Gameday Telecast.
LSU should be happy for two reasons as well:
1) They play UNC and their backup defense.
2) It's Erin Andrews first Gameday Telecast.
LSU wins 38-17.
(24) Oregon State vs (6) TCU
Oregon State has a great opportunity in September. They can slay the two BCS busters from last year and end what could be a big mess in January. The problem is that Oregon State is not good on the road. They play TCU on the road. I am no math major but I smell TCU winning and winning definitively. TCU 35 OSU 17
(3) Boise State vs (10) Virginia Tech
I love this game. Boise State returns almost everybody on offense and defense. Virginia Tech is pretty much home for this game. They have two outstanding running backs in Ryan Williams and Darren Evans. Bud Foster has a defensive scheme for just about everyone.
This is the biggest test Boise State has faced since Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Every ounce of my body wants to pick Boise State. I love picking Boise. They have never led me wrong. There is this tiny piece of me that just says Virginia Tech may be too strong for them on the defensive side of the ball. Virginia Tech 28 Boise State 27
In the other games, there are no thrills. Just blowouts and war wounds.
Oklahoma beats Utah State; Oregon beats New Mexico; Nebraska runs over Western Kentucky; Arkansas beats Tennessee Tech; Wisconsin beats UNLV.
Welcome home College Football. Welcome home.
