Troy Woolfolk Injured: Michigan's Time to Panic
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
As we know, Michigan's depth at cornerback is very thin with players that have experience.ย As Michigan fans, we felt ok losing Warren to the NFL with senior Troy Woolfolkย at one corner and JT Floyd or JT Turnerย at the other.
Flash forward to Augustย 17.ย ย JT Turnerย left the team after the first day of practice and now-senior cornerbackย (son of Michigan legend Butch)Troy Woolfolk has injured himself during practice today.ย He is currently at the hospital and from the initial reports it seems to be a dislocated ankle, which would put him out for the year.
I'm not sure what the universe has against Michigan defensive backs but we get it,ย you win.ย Universe you are the champ, now please move on to another team.
Here is the list I put together after Turner left:
Michigan defensive backs lost in the last year:
Demar Dorsey = Never enrolled admission issues
Adrian Witty = Never enrolled admission issues now at Cincinnatiย
Justin Turner = Transfer due to inability to break into the starting lineup
Boubacar Cissoko = Transferred to a different type of Big House
Donovan Warren = NFL
This was the one player Michigan couldn't lose on defense, and now it looks like they have.ย For sureย we will see freshman playing.ย Hello, Cullen Christian.ย Hello, Courtney Avery. Welcome to September 4.
Troy can redshirt if he is for sure lost for the year.
Update from Butch (Troy's dad):ย freep link
โIโm only listening to what the coaches told me, but they said it happened during a tackle. His foot got stuck in the turf and his ankle just turned,โ Butch Woolfolk said from Sugar Land, Texas, where he lives and where Troy grew up. โIt was dislocated and when they put it back in the socket, they did an X-ray and found out about the ligament (damage) and the bone broke.โ
As for surgery, thatโs a decision that may be days away.
โThey donโt know yet, theyโll wait until the swelling goes down,โ said Butch, a former U-M tailback, who plans to come to Michigan as soon as he can.
โIโve spoken to him,โ Butch said, adding that Troy is on medicine to mask the leg pain but is emotionally devastated. โYeah, heโs pretty crushed. The strange thing is he decided not to work (at a job) in the off-season so he could just workout, and he said heโs in the best shape of his life. He called me everyday after practice and said he was at the top of his game. And I heard the same thing from the coaches. He was ready.โ
