College Football Playoff Round 1 Complete

Allen SmithContributor IAugust 14, 2010

Well I’m a little late publishing the recap but here’s what happened in the 2nd half of the NCAA Preseason Top 25 Tournament:

Oklahoma 27 Utah 17

Utah made two crucial turnovers (INTs) in the red zone.  One of which would have given them a 21-10 lead, but turned the ball over on the 2 yard line, which Oklahoma cashed in for 7, as they did on the second turnover.

Nebraska 31 West Virgina 14

Nebraska’s defense was just too dominate.  West Virginia had no room to operate, thus resulting in a lop sided score.

Miami (FL) 41 Florida St. 16

This was close until Miami completely ran off 24 unanswered points in the 2nd half.  Florida St. tried to make up the difference but the hole was too deep.

Iowa 24 Auburn 12

Close game throughout, but Iowa was able to make a few more big plays.  Auburn got deep in the red zone numerous times, but only managed field goals.

Oregon 38 Oregon St. 21

Oregon jumped out to a big lead and then sat on it. Oregon St., tried to play catch up but like the Seminoles, just too big of a hole.

Ok, Sunday the first half of the next round will be simulated:  #1 Alabama vs. #16 LSU, #5 Boise St. vs. #12 Wisconsin, #2 Ohio St. vs. #18 North Carolina, and #3 Florida vs. #19 Arkansas.

It will be interesting to see how the season really takes shape and if this simulated tournament will mimic the regular season.  Don’t laugh necessarily at these results, EA Sports games are fairly accurate, just look at their record simulating the Super Bowl.
