The Final SEC Prediction: Why Alabama Will Win
As kickoff gets close I have been releasing my final predictions for the 2010 SEC season. I promised I would release a couple days later but, due to school it got delayed. For everyone that does not know, this is the continued story from the previous article with the two others coming soon.
Alabama and Saban have been a dominant force on the football field the past two years going 26-2. the past two seasons. Alabama will look to return to Atlanta.
This slideshow will give reasons why Alabama will win the SEC over Georgia this year.
Here is the first part of the Final SEC Prediction
Reason No. 5: Georgia's Defense
1 of 5
The defense for the Dawgs last year was just plain bad. The defense would constantly give up big game changing plays. The Kentucky game, Oklahoma State game, and LSU game could have been won.
Alabama was able hold the Gators to 13 points while Florida hung 41 points on the defense. Tennessee was able to put up 45 points on the Dawgs and Alabama held Tennessee to 10.
Reason No.: 4 Mark Ingram and Company
2 of 5
Alabama brings back Heisman winning Mark Ingram and another possible Heisman contender in Trent Richardson. The running game of 'Bama will be strong and powerful once more.
The Tide will use their running to bust open on the new Georgia defense. In times before the 4-3 defense was able to stop the run. But, now Georgia is a 3-4 defense which will focus more on the passing game.
The Tide will have the potential to beat Georgia with just their running game if they meet in December.
Reason No. 3: Alabama's Defense
3 of 5
Unlike Georgia's defense, the defense of the Tide was dominant last year, 24 points being the highest a team would score on them. Georgia also has a red shirt freshmen QB. The Tide will bring a pass rush, no doubt forcing Murray to make dumb moves.
While the defense loses stars, it is still s strong defense and the same that brought Tim Tebow to tears last year.
Reason No. 2: Julio Jones and the Passing Game
4 of 5
The passing defense for Georgia was absolutely terrible last year. Every time an opposing quarterback threw the ball, the Dawg fans would hold their breath. Julio Jones has to be one of the best receivers in the nation if not the SEC.
Greg McElroy threw for 2,508 yards last year and 192 yards per game. The Georgia defense gave up 2,768 yards in 13 games last year. That is an average of 212 yards a game.
Reason No. 1 Nick Saban
5 of 5
Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Les Miles may not have coached in the SEC as long as Mark Richt but, have they won a combined set of five national titles. Nick Saban has two rings while Richt has none. Saban is 1-1 vs. Richt while coaching Alabama.
2008 was the last time the last time Saban met Richt and destroyed the Dawgs 41-30. Saban is 6-2 versus the SEC East in his time at Alabama, the only losses coming to Georgia in 2007 and Florida in 2008.
Saban has a record of 33-8 while coaching Alabama. And, a 22-6 record versus the SEC since 2007.
