NFL Lineman Darnell Stapleton Joining Double G Sports
Double G Sports is proud and honored to announce the newest member to our team. Darnell Stapleton will be joining Double G Sports as a football writer.
Stapleton will be a great asset to DGS as he is a New Jersey native that has exceptional football experience and expertise. He will mainly be contributing to our site by writing about the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football program.
The offensive lineman graduated from Union High School in Union, N.J. then went to Hudson Valley Community College before heading to Rutgers University and joining the football team in 2005. Stapleton was the starting center in 2006 and 2007 and in his senior year, he was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy as a top collegiate center.
After his collegiate season, the Pittsburgh Steelers picked up Stapleton as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2007 season. Before the 2008 season, the Steelers traded Sean Mahan, essentially making Stapleton the backup center.
During a Monday Night Football game in 2008, Steelers starting guard Kendall Simmons was injured and would be out for the season. This was Stapleton's chance to shine and he became a starting guard for the remainder of that season.
Stapleton started at right guard for Pittsburgh in Super Bowl 43.
The big lineman missed most of last season due to injury and is now an unrestricted free agent hoping to land with a team in the near future.
In the meantime, Stapleton will bring his vast knowledge of football and Rutgers to Double G Sports. We look forward to everything Darnell can offer us.
Darnell's younger brother is likely going to be the starting left tackle for Rutgers this season so he should be able to bring some very good insight to you.
Thank you for joining us, Darnell, and welcome to Double G Sports.
