Various thoughts and questions have crossed my mind over the last couple days having to do with expansion and what could happen with it. Just wanted to share.

1. People criticize Boise State, saying they are a pretender and that they don’t deserve the praise or a shot at a national title. Today, after it is reported they will join the Mountain West, I read that the MWC is legit now and that they should be a BCS conference right away.

How does adding a “pretender” make them legit??

2. Although not the Texas school rumored to be in talks with the SEC, what if Texas Tech were invited? Then Tommy Tubberville would be back in the SEC all of a sudden.

3. The Pac 10 moved on Colorado almost like a slap at Texas Legislature saying “We don’t want Baylor and you can’t make us take them.” But now if Texas A&M goes elsewhere, could the Bears still end up in the Pac 10?

4. The Mountain West does in fact look stronger now with Boise State, but what if the Pac 10 doesn’t get the Big XII South and instead offers Utah and stays at 12? Would the Utes go or stay on the thought that they MIGHT get a BCS bid with the new Mountain West?

5. Will the Mountain West be going after anyone else? Perhaps it is just a waiting game, but they could make a play at some of the left over Big XII schools if the South does go to the Pac. Or maybe a couple more WAC schools. Conference USA schools would likely be on the short list as well.

6. Where does this leave the WAC? They lose their big dog and now suddenly they slip down behind Conference USA and maybe farther? Is Nevada or Fresno State really respectable as a conference champion? Do they go after any other schools and, if so, who?

Pretty much all the schools in the region have been members before and left for their reasons. Either that or they are FCS.

Then again, with Louisiana Tech as part of the conference, maybe they aren’t as limited regionally. Maybe they should make a play at the Texas schools that will likely be trying to make their way up to FBS status. Or go for a Sun Belt school or two.

7. With 12 schools now in the Big Ten and 10 schools in the Big XII, can they just trade names?

That’s all I got for now. Come back, there maybe more later.
