NCAA Football: Is the Pac-10 Striking First?

If the rumors coming out today about the Pac-10 are true, then hats off to commissioner Larry Scott.

The Dallas Morning News and Associated Press are citing anonymous sources close to the situation that the Pac-10 is poised to invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Colorado to join its league.

That would give us the Pac-16 (thanks for the idea Big Ten).

Not only could this spell the end of the Big 12, but the Pac-10's expansion plans are way more exciting than anything Big Ten commish Jim Delany has leaked so far.

Boy, does this up the ante for the Big Ten.

Now, where does Delany go? Rutgers, Syracuse, and Missouri just don't sound that enticing anymore (even with Notre Dame and Nebraska).

At least Delany still has a conference and oodles of money to play with.

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe should be very, very concerned. And it appears he is. Beebe had a press conference scheduled for Thursday to talk about the commitment of his teams to the conference.

Holy, bad timing.

Beebe can't be too pleased with Texas AD DeLoss Dodds recently told the Kansas City Star: “We did not start this. If we need to finish it, we’ll finish it. We’re going to be a player in whatever happens.”

And it doesn't stop there.

The Associated Press is reporting that Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton said the school is a proud member of the Big 12, but that the Tigers are keeping their ears open to offers because at the end of the day they are trying to do what's best for their athletic department.

Man did this just get interesting...for everyone but the remnants of the Big 12.
