DeVier Posey Ready for Quantum Leap

The two men pictured above, DeVier Posey and Terrelle Pryor, are well-known buddies around Ohio State. They've been close since they both arrived as freshmen in 2008. That friendship has carried over onto the field. Posey is Pryor's security blanket. More often than not, a scrambling Pryor always seems to find Posey one way or another.

Sure, Dane Sanzenbacher is another favorite target of No. 2's, but just look at the numbers. Last year, Posey had 60 receptions and eight touchdown catches. Sanzenbacher had 36 catches and six touchdowns.

Furthermore, next season should be a breakout year for Posey, who holds the 200 meter and 400 meter sprint records at LaSalle High School in Cincinnati. Standing 6-foot-3, weighing 200 pounds and sporting a 33-inch vertical leap, Posey has the speed, size and athleticism to be a No. 1 receiver in NFL.

As with Pryor's Rose Bowl MVP performance, Posey's performance in the "Granddaddy of Them All" could reveal more of things to come next year. No. 8 had eight catches for 101 yards, including a tremendous touchdown catch grab late in the game to put away the Ducks.

Due to Pryor's maturation, the OSU offense should open up more next year as well. OSU will be able to run the ball effectively with Boom Herron and Brandon Saine. Thus, instead of taking the side road-route to a BCS bowl, Tressel may hand Pryor the keys and tell him to hop the interstate, and to slam his foot on the gas.

That would bode well for Posey, who is a game-breaking receiver ready to explode onto the national scene and terrorize Big Ten defenses. Given the recent history of success of Buckeye wide receivers and their knack for being top round picks, I'd say the odds are in Posey's favor.
