Who Is The Best Dual-Threat QB In College Football?

IconAs the world of college football continues to evolve, one of the newest weapons offensive coordinators and head coaches are looking for are dual-threat quarterbacks.

In my opinnion, the 5 best dual threat quarterbacks are Pat White, Dennis Dixon, Matt Grothe, Tim Tebow, and Stephen McGee.

West Virginia's Pat White is an effective passer, but is better known for his ability to pick up big chunks of yards on the ground.

Oregon's Dennis Dixon is a very efficient passer, but could also pick up rushing yards—he had nine touchdowns and 583 rushing yards before his devastating injury against Arizona.

South Florida's Matt Grothe has put up decent passing yards, and makes defenders look silly when he takes off down the field.

Florida sophomore quarterback Tim Tebow is second in the country in passing efficiency and has an outstadning 19 rushing touchdowns this year—which is the third most in the country.

Texas A&M's Stephen McGee also deserves some attention, as he could pick up 1,000 rushing yards before this season's end. He has already amassed 828 yards so far.

How do these players stack up against each other?

Passing: This is a toss-up between Dixon and Tebow. Both players threw for over 2,000 yards, and each sported a top-five quarterback rating.

  1. Dixon/Tebow
  2. White
  3. Grothe
  4. McGee

Rushing: Pat White is the most likely of these players to break off a huge run. White has a lot of big play ability and is the fastest player on this list, but the others aren't far behind him.

  1. White
  2. Tebow
  3. McGee
  4. Dixon
  5. Grothe

If I were to choose one of these quarterbacks, I would have to choose Pat White.

I will admit that I have a slight bias towards WVU, but it seems he always puts the Mountaineers on his shoulders when needed, and carries his team to victory.

However, all of these quarterbacks are very good, and it's very close.
