College Football: Who's Making Noise on the Recruiting Trail?
Let's start off with the defending National Champs, shall we? LSU is hot on the recruiting trail, picking up players such as Russell Shepard, who is the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback according to just about every recruiting publication.
The defending champs have 13 commitments on board so far—eight from out of state, which proves Les Miles can recruit outside the Boot. LSU is currently in fifth Place in Rivals' 2009 Team Rankings for recruiting.
Well, Ohio State did not quite pull it off in the BCS Championship Game, but they still have a shot at a recruiting title. They are hotter than anyone in recruiting, boasting a whopping 23 commitments from players such as five-star outside linebacker Dorian Bell.
The Buckeyes are doing nothing but looking back at everyone who is trying to catch up in recruiting. Coach Jim Tressel has cherry-picked the state of Ohio, having 13 on board in-state, with the other 10 commitments coming from out of state.
Can they finish number one when it's all said and done? We will know on National Signing Day.
A banner year in California it has been in recruiting, and USC has taken full advantage, already notching four five-star recruits from the Golden State. Plenty would argue that Pete Carroll and the mighty Trojans are ahead on the recruiting trail.
The Trojans have already gathered commitments from players such as Matt Barkley (Rivals.com No. 1 Pocket Passing quarterback), Linebacker Vontaze Burfict, and Wide Receiver Randall Carroll. The Trojans will definitely be a favorite to win the recruiting title this year. Look out!
One of the biggest surprises in Recruiting so far this year has to be what's going on in Good Ole Alabama. Auburn has taken a huge lead in recruiting over Nick Saban and the Tide, compiling 17 commitments on board to Alabama's eight.
I wouldn't expect this to last for long though, because anyone who is an LSU fan knows Little Nicky always finishes strong. The state of Alabama is definitely something to look at on this year's recruiting trail.
