The Door Is Beginning To Close on Tim Tebow's Time As a Quarterback
Well, if youโre a Tim Tebow fan and have been taking the route of blind optimism for the past two years, you are probably thinking that Tebow will run out onto the field as the Jacksonville Jaguars' starting quarterback next September.
For the rest of us who live in what is known as the real world, what has been common knowledge for quite some time is now becoming a reality.
As of last week, Tebowโs door to being an NFL quarterback was open ever so slightly.
Yesterday, however, it began to close for good.
Why Tebow is actually attending this weekโs Senior Bowl is skirting on what is and is not sane to begin with.
Tebowโs biggest selling points are his leadership skills and his uncanny ability to win football games.
His negative points are, well, virtually every physical tool that NFL scouts look for in a modern-day quarterback.
Why jump at an opportunity to demonstrate physical skills that are simply not present?ย
Arm strength?
Accuracy?
Agility?
According to Sporting News, โTebow showed great poise and confidence and good passing mechanics and accuracy during individual drills.โ
Unfortunately, quarterbacks must operate in a team environment, and when the team drills began, โhe struggled to control the snap, lost confidence and threw four or five bad passes in a row. He then began to aim passes, which further hindered his accuracy. When he had the opportunity to pull the ball down and run, he flicked the ball into the face of Alabama CB Javier Arenas.โ
In essence, Monday was a complete disaster for a guy who had an extremely slim chance of becoming an NFL quarterback to begin with.
Whatโs next for Tebow?
Well, he better hit the gym as hard as possible and work on his running speed. If he has any intention of receiving a decent-sized paycheck on April 22, he better show up at the NFL combine and demonstrate an ability to transform himself into a successful tight end or third down back.
In terms of personality, leadership ability, and coachability, Tebow is exactly what you look for in an NFL quarterback.
Unfortunately for him, NFL teams tend to be just a little bit concerned with a playerโs physical tools.
